At a local used car lot there is a 2005 SRX. It is a real beauty, but I have not actually decided to take the test drive and kick the tires so to speak. I am however very interested, I just dont want to fall in love with it if they are prone to lots of issues. This one has the 3rd row seating, rear wheel drive, v-8, leather interior, etc. Has around 175,000 miles on it. What are the opinions here? Is it just nice to look at, or a good deal?

IMHO, a used vehicle with no knowledge of the maintenance practices is a crap-shoot. I would not even think about it. Just my $0.02

First off, you don't mention what the asking price is, that makes a difference.

Just make sure you go into this knowing that you are buying a 12 year old, high mile vehicle.
You more than likely will have to spend some serious dollars if you keep it for several years.
Cadillac parts, if they are still available, can be expensive.
The first step is to take it to a trusted mechanic to have him look it over and tell you what it probably will need.

If you have a serious love affair going here and can do most of the work yourself I would go for it.
The key here is you doing some or most of the labor yourself.
That way you are not spending $100 to $125 per hour for labor every time it needs something.

Thanks everyone. It is a beautiful vehicle but after taking a look at it again I will have to pass. The 3rd row seat was really appealing to me, but when in use it leaves no trunk space. We travel between Idaho and California once a year and the kids prefer to have space to spread out. Using that third row for them would eliminate all the cargo room. My husband is my mechanic so labor wouldnt be a problem unless it was something he was not able to complete on his own. I do appreciate all the input.
