Compass??

Hi everyone....I'm new to this forum. I ordered my Equinox about 4 weeks ago. When I test drove one, I noticed that there wasn't a compass on the rearview mirror. I thought that they were pretty standard on most new cars now. Does anyone know if the Equinox comes with one?? Sorry if this was already asked before....I did a search on the forums and couldn't find where this question was brought up before.

Welcome Louise.
The compass is on the DIC (driver information center).
Okay....thanks gearhead! I see that you are from Michigan too. ;D

You're most welcome Louise.
Yes, formerly from Michigan (Farmington Hills area), now across the river in Canadian Motor City LOL!
Both are kind of home to us.;)
My nox has the compass in the dic but it does nothing more than just say compass with a fancy logo. Is it suppose to show if your driving north, south, east, or west? I do not have a compass in my rear view mirror.

I've always figured that option was for Nav cars. In smaller letters I have a compass that does show direction. The bottom row no matter what my main display is at (speed for example), it shows

Gear Selection|odometer|Compass Direction

That page is for Onstar directions. If you get them sent to your car, they will show direction arrows and how far until next turn and so on.

Its in the bottom right side of DIC. It is always in that spot. See photo. Says SE in photo. (South East)

HUH! That is wierd my DIC tells me what gear i am in, for example P, D, etc. Right next to that info is my milage, no compass indicator? Any thoughts to why my DIC is different?
I actually like it better in the DIC... I hardly look to the mirror for the compass in my truck.

I thought that it only told you what gear you are in if you are using Manual mode on the tranny..
Entry level model doesn't have compass. Is yours one of these? I checked on the GM.ca site under interior features.
That must be why I dont have a compass in my DIC, My nox is an entry level model. I have always been a little disappointed in the entry level options not being standard like many other manufactures. For example, the steering wheel already has controls built in for the cruise control, would it have been so hard to add volume and channel controls for the radio on the steering wheel? The compass option as well, that comes standard on most other vehicles.

Not to bad mouth Chevy, it is the only vehilce make I would ever purchase, but i just felt that those two options and a few others should have been standard in thier vehicles by now.
Welcome to the modern world of automobile packaging. It doesn't favor the conservative shopper. If you want the bells and whistles, you've got to move up package. Then GM will charge you $900 for a bundle of $3.50 parts. Every manufacturer does that, even the Koreans. We bailed on the Hyundai Santa Fe cause the upscale package came with NO headroom (along with the sunroof). Don't think about it; just pay the price and move on. Pick the manufacturer that does it the least, then forget about it. Enjoy the extra controls and displays.
