The compartment hinge on my 2011 Equinox broke a few weeks ago, I haven’t had the opportunity to have it repaired yet.
What part do they replace when it’s repaired by the dealer?

The part replaced would depend on the specific part that is broken. I would recommend contacting the dealership directly for more information about what part will need to be repolaced. Please feel free to keep us posted.

Has this issue been resolved? I would be happy to look into this for you. In order to do so, I will need some more specific information from you. If you could please send me your full name, address, phone number, the VIN for the vehicle, and current mileage via private message, I will be able to take further steps. Thank you again and I look forward to hearing from you.

Mine doesn't spring open more than an inch after a month of ownership. I can push it open and it slowly closes. Seems like a universal flaw.
Same here 3500 miles. Never use it. Just noticed the other day while cleaning the car.
Yep, I noticed this also. We've had the vehicle four months now and the spring appears to be too weak to open it more than an inch.
Ya me too. Mine actually crapped out a day after I got it back from service. I use the compartment everyday for sunglasses and work badges. I've opened and closed it at least twice a day since I got my Terrain back in February. I just clicked the button and it didn't pop open like usual. I knew it would wear out eventually, just not this quick. I will check with the dealership to get them to order the part.
That answers a question I had. You used yours all the time and we hardly used ours at all. Either way, the part failed.
Sounds like we're all on the same boat! Mine broke on my 2011 equinox and I was curious...so I did some digging. I opened up the compartment, removed the rubber mat and unscrewed two bolts. I slowly shimmied the entire compartment out and noticed that the spring mechanisms were intact, but there was a crack in the plastic mold that holds the mighty spring in place. I thought about ordering another part, but it appears that it would only crack and crack again. I'd hate to wait for the other side to crack as well. Glueing the piece or melting the piece would only frustrate me. If only there could be an improved design on this part so that it would be more durable seeing as that it happens to so many customers? Perhaps a new mold can be improved and available for customers.
Hi ,,,Mine Broke as well....
Bad design....
hopefully they will resolve this
Wow -- things must have changed between the 2010 and 2011 model years. My Equinox has almost 20,000 miles and I open the compartment at least twice a day for sunglasses, etc. Still works fine (knock on wood).
This reminds me of the third door handle on my 2001 Sonoma. Pointless engineering because it was designed to fail. I finally stopped buying handles because it was such a pain to fix and everyone knew and expected it to break. Oh well, as long as I have a warranty, I'll get the dealership to fix it.
Seems after a day mine busted also, removed rubber mat and the two screws and pulled out the compartment, i saw two plastic pieces that seems to be part of spring housing, im going to ask dealer what can they do to replace it, cheap plastic engineering should have made of metal housing, since its a metal spring ;)
See this thread for a lot of people complaining about the same thing.

I had to have mine fixed and apparently they have a redesigned part available. Unfortunately, though, it took mine about a month to come in. Maybe once they see how many are breaking they will keep more in stock. I have only used mine once since replacement, so not sure if the new part is better or not.

This has been an ongoing problem with the lid on the storage compartment. Mine broke after using it maybe ten or twelve times. The replacement is under a new part number, so they may have changed something. The old part number was 20974767 and was replaced by part number 22752751. I checked with my service manager and my replacement has the new part number.
Just had mine replaced this week. I'll have to check and see if my paper work has the part number they used. Hopefully it's the new one.
