Hey Guys,

Just wondering what your guys thoughts were on the Onyx Black and the premium Carbon Black Metallic offered on the Terrains ( may be named different for the other models). I haven't actually seen the premium in person, what's the difference, and what makes it warrant the additional charge?

Thanks for your opinions!

I have the Equinox in Onyx Black with chrome door handles and mirrors. Jet black interior. I really like it. The Carbon Metallic offers the metal flake paint which is also sharp. I believe it is just personal preference. Either way you can't go wrong. Good Luck! :thumb:

I have an Onyx Black Terrain and I love the color. The Carbon Black metallic looks great...subtle changes in tone depending on light.

Two things kept me from getting the Carbon:

1. The cost to upgrade. I was buying new and I could not justify spending extra on a paint choice. If I was buying used, it likely would not have any effect on the decision.

2. Metallic paints are a bear to match. Any minor door ding, stone chip, etc. that you get could require entire panels to be repainted to get the right color match.

Excellent points, thanks for the insight.
These lead me to believe the Onyx may be a smarter choice for me, I have a bad feeling once I actually see the Black Granite it may hit me like jmlock, and the 'smarter choice' will go out the window....

I have had both... but I'm not much for keeping my vehicle spotless as it's more of a back and forth to work car than a parader. I found that more often than not in the sunlight, Carbon Black Metallic had a pronounced greenish tint to it. Likely because of the film of dust on it.

I bought a new 2012 Terrain a few days ago with the standard black - I checked out the metallic black in the showroom and wasn't impressed - it looked as if the thing was covered in dust and didn't look as sharp as other black metallics I've seen... mind you, I'm comparing to BMW, Mercs, etc., but still.

I bought a Carbon Black Terrain (couldn't find an Onyx Black model with the options I wanted).....

Half the time I'm happy with the decision, the other half I wish I would've chose Onyx Black

Sorry... not a whole lot of help ;D
