I just turned in my GMC Acadia and picked up an SRX. I have noticed that the rear view camera (with Nav screen) is basically black and white and grainy. It looks like the night vision view on the Acadia as opposed to a nice, crisp color rendering that I used to get in daytime.

What does your view look like in daytime? Is it clear and colorful or b/w and grainy?

Mine has been grainy as well but I have so far written that off as just getting the car in the middle of winter and it has been clean only a few times - thus, the camera lens has been filthy. I'll need to pay attention the next time I get the car washed and see if I think it is clear or not.

To be honest, though, in general I find the backup camera marginally useful and rarely use it. I glance at it because it pops up but it would be dangerous to use it extensively in lieu of side mirrors and just plain turning your head and looking. Grant it, it's great for parallel parking to see how close you are to the car behind you. But overall I find I'm not using it all that much.

This a common complaint. My Buick Enclave had a better screen camera. I intend to dismantle the camera and see if any Gain/Contrast adjustments are available. They could be in the Nav unit itself. Mine functions adequately. Does the job.......

We just returned from Florida and rented a car for our vacation. We had no choice on vehicles and ended up with a Chrysler T&C mini van. Not a Chrysler fan by any means but the backup camera was fantastic. Excellent picture quality. Sounds like GM should take a peek at what they are using.

Strange, we don't see the symptoms you mention?
Full colour and sharp picture is what we see, except at night of course, but the night view is excellent as well.
I'll take some hi-def pics of our NAV screen while in Reverse (reminder to self, keep foot on brake LOL), day and night and post them up for comparison.

I occasionally look in mine just to be sure there's nothing hidden behind me. I do not use it as a backup assist however. I agree, the image is marginal at best!

My backup camera is in the rearview mirror...not very high res and much smaller than the nav screen cam, but it gets the job done and is much better than a blind back-up. I find that it's a little harder to see details with sunglasses on, but then again all my sunglasses are sub $20 cheapies. :D
