Got my 2016 just over a month ago but I have noticed that when I use Google Maps, cause I don't like the directions OnStar uses, the voice navigation doesn't speak over the radio. In order to listen to the voice navigation I have to change to Bluetooth. I've been in other cars, Camry as a rental 2 weeks ago, where it did speak over the radio. Is there any way to change this?

My work migrated from Android (Galaxy 5s) to iPhone, and I have noticed that when I use the voice feature to text when at a stop or turn on Siri, the infotainment system moves to bluetooth but doesn't revert back to radio after the text was sent. This is kinda annoying along with the fact that I could quick respond in Infotainment using the Galaxy to a text but can't with the iPhone. I did google searches and saw some people complaining about staying in bluetooth but nothing about when this will get fixed.

I never really paid much attention but I believe it switches to the phone audio for directions and then back to radio/cd/xm after the direction on my wife's terrain. That when the iPhone is plugged into the USB port and not just using bt. I'll have to check on my nox tomorrow.

I find Google maps to be very inconsistent when it comes to audio thru MyLink. Sometimes it works by using the phone audio as mentioned by twenty11SLE. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. It was most frustrating when halfway thru a trip it would stop working. I ended up switching to Waze because it just uses the iPhone's built in speaker. I also like the event reporting (accident, traffic, police, etc) in Waze. As for when it will get fixed... I doubt it ever will. It's been this way since I leased my Nox in 2013.

I didn't get the navigation package with my Terrain, just the normal Infotainment it comes with. I turned Siri off so when I speak a text it will go back to the radio when done. But Google Maps still wont play over the radio. And I found out this weekend that audio from the phone, YouTube in this instance, will only play on the Bluetooth setting as well.

Is all this normal? My wife has a 2015 Mustang with navigation so I don't know if it works the same with hers. The car I had before this didn't have bluetooth.

I've played around with apple's Maps and Google Maps

Apple Maps, with the phone plugged into the USB port.
After starting the directions, I have to switch the app audio to bluetooth, not Dock Port. I was able to listen to the radio and the navigation directions play over bluetooth.

Google Maps, same as above
I have to switch in the app from play voice over bluetooth to "Play as BT phone call"

Thanks for the info. I'm new to iOS and these were settings that I was not aware of. I set both of them up and drove around my subdivision to test it out to force it to change directions. I tried both plugged and unplugged. In both instances the radio stopped playing and the maps audio played, then when done the radio played again. But there appeared to be a 1-2 second delay in audio from the phone which usually missed "in xxx feet turn right/left". The info you provided is appreciated and helped, but due to the delay it still makes it hard to use.

There is that delay when switching from radio to bt. It works fine on the highway since the apps tell you the command well ahead of the turn, once down to city/neighborhood driving it's not as good.
