I have used this forum to investigate some of the MANY issues I have had with my 2005 Cadillac SRX. It is a beautiful car and most would tell you that Cadillac does sell quality. My story has taken several twists and has worn me to the point of posting some information in hopes of helping others who may experience some mechanical issues with their "beautiful Cady". To shorten the story a bit I will jump quickly to the current time....my vehicle is awaiting a pick up at the dealership. It seems to have spent SO MUCH more time at the dealership or on the back of a flatbed wrecker than at my home in the garage. It has given me the opportunity to test drive MANY other beautiful Cadys....HAHA!! This visit has been for "timing chains" which according to the current district specialist is in NO WAY related to the ECM (which monitors the position of the camshafts on the one bank of the engine and the crankshaft...SERVICE BULLETIN P0009...Incorrect timing chain, stretched timing chain, failed camshaft.....CALIBRATION threshold problem) The TCM was supposedly replaced and/or reprogrammed at the last visit to the dealership. It had already shown trouble codes of "P" which are powertrain, and a U1000 "all loss of communication concerning ground, and serial data circuits” this code is set when the control module does not receive a message that is expected. In other words, it is a critical parameter that has NO identification number to associate with and will ONLY report it once. Then it goes to default......It is the State of Health monitoring. It appears the technicians chose the route of using other modules, and reprogrammed, recalibrated (I actually have 2 sets of part numbers listed as CONTROL MODULES now....one "only if the vehicle is chuggle/ surge between 40-45 MPH” the second, “new calibration for start” WHAT is that all about???) Perhaps....#05524A...Customer Satisfaction ECM EEPROM Excessive Writes reprograms ECM. INSTABILITY???? They even replaced the water pump at that visit. Perhaps it is just a coincidence that the crankshaft just happens to be located "other locations of crankshaft include, the front of the crank on the engine block below or next to the water pump, on the main crank pulley. After reading several other post, I can't help but notice the same patterns regarding the SRX. The pinion seal, the oil, the timing chains, the ECM (REPROGRAM ENGINE CONTROL MODULE ANOMALY #04051), the no starts....it is such a lengthy list who can keep up? I was actually told at one time that my SRX was NOT part of the recalls or "campaigns" for the Rear suspension weld #N060029/06029A or ECM reprogram #07204. This information regarding the recalls was withheld from me until I hired someone to investigate it for me....what a shame. I'm assuming that most are getting the BIG picture by now. Since this began, I have done much research and checking on my own. This research and information combined with the trouble codes that were present and those that were concealed from me during the NO STARTS, leaking oil, check engine light on, NO air intake, P2066, P0008, P0009, P0700, misfires, the lunging then what felt like a BREAK applied from the rear of the car and sudden downshift as I was traveling on the freeway approximately 75mph, and the ULTIMATE.....NO COMMUNICATION between the TCM and ECM after multiple recalibrations and reprogramming s efforts are ALARMING at best. From a diagnostic standpoint, this would be like a physician telling you “I’m sorry Ma’am we have LOST ALL OF YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS, You have had Cancer all along!!” It is my belief that GM and Cadillac are aware of the inequities of the computer communication errors and the effects on the vehicles. After all, they changed their warranty in 2006 to infuse confidence in consumers for their already “beautiful vehicles”. I have come to the following conclusion Cadillac/GM products are NOT SAFE if they are built like my vehicle. The Cadillac customer service professionals are NO longer the stellar or professional individuals they once were. After no less than four district specialists, or the customer service representatives who have NO IDEA about the powertrain, trouble codes, safety products, etc. I have been told “I am not a technician"...."I think we have done all we can”, “I’ll look into it” or “Your car is out of warranty”. LAUGHABLE if only he/she themselves were to put HIS children into that BEAUTIFUL CAR and head down the freeway to the zoo or water park hoping he makes it there today!! This mom is SAD she bought a CADILLAC and in the past an Escalade, Trailblazer, Camaro, and several Bonneville.

8-5-11 This Morning........Interesting little "addendum" I just attached. I located that this morning while checking email. PLEASE, PLEASE, pay attention to the VERY similar details of the problems, the error codes, relationship to parts and GM response. The bulletins for the 2011 SRX look so very much like the details of my vehicle it amazed me! From the very beginning I told the dealership the same things....over and over, and over I am hoping at this point that mostly all Cadillac SRX owners are sitting up and paying attention very carefully!! I would be SCREAMING from the mountain tops to GM/ Cadillac. Best of Luck to all and God Bless.

Although it appears some would want this report to remain "limited use" until this program is complete I have taken the time to copy and paste the report for others to view. It also seems that at this time, or at least at the time of publication, or "Due to the availability of the required calibration, this program is being administered in phases. This first phase will include the Cadillac vehicles only. You will receive a dealer message when the calibration and VINs are being released for the remainder of the vehicles." The Cadillac SRX is listed.....

2007-2009 Cadillac CTS, SRX, STS
General Motors....GM/ Cadillac and the now infamous ECM reprogram and the Timing Chains. The document is attached and is available through any search engine via the internet. My friends, have a splendid weekend.

I was able to pick that "Beautiful Car"....the 2005 Cadillac SRX up from the dealership once again. The "ransom" this time was a mere $2,674.77 (a discount was offered from the DEALERSHIP NOT CADILLAC OR GM) of 900.00. Since the wallet was s t r e t c h e d once again, I decided staying close to home and near my little beauty would be a good idea. It gave me some time to do some calculation on my investment of the Cadillac SRX. Here is the breakdown as close as I can calculate. I may have left out a few....give or take a few hundred:
Sticker price plus options new. Base V6, add heated seats, all wheel drive, adjustable pedals, towing package calculates to approximately $41,000.00 Now her comes the fun part the REPAIRS for the no starts, leaking oil, timing chains, replaced, reprogrammed, recalibrated, ecm, tcm, pcm, hmmmm....the towing, the batteries when they couldn't figure out WHY it wouldn't start, the pinion seal, the solenoids, the racing engine, the lunging and rear end issue with breaking and locking up, grinding noises, timing chains....and so on, and so on.....
ADD to the 41,000.00 these amounts above and beyond regular maintenence and this is MY COST AFTER WARRANTY elapsed of course.
$2674.77
193.55
77.84
275.69
165.43
176.43
2,615.43
1,578.92
1673.76
FOR A GRAND total, not including the last 4 days of a rental car and gosh knows what is the price of driving in uncertainty, my investment is now almost 51,000.00 in Cadillac. It sure is pretty though....

TRUE, how VERY true......my "beautiful Cadillac" is one of the cases of beauty is only skin deep, BUT ugly goes ALL the way to the bone, or in the case of my vehicle it goes ALL the way to the ECM, the TCM, Timing Chains, PCM, and only the dealership will tell me what now is the problem. YES, you guessed it.........even with the slighted braking I am getting a rattling noise, a tugging sensation and a loud CLUNK!! Afterall, it has been back at home for almost one week. I took my daughter to the MD for a regular appointment and she advised me sitting in the passenger seat....."mom, what was that noise?". I said what noise baby? I turned the radio down......Couldn't help myself REO was singing...LOL!! And not only can you hear the noise very clearly, with one hand on the floor board on her side of the car I can FEEL IT.

Ugly to the frame now I am guessing? or another reprogramming, recalibrating issue? Maybe the folks at Cadillac or GM can issue me another "part" # via the computer and reprogram or recalibrate this error or DTC code as well. Jeepers, I sure hope so!!!! YES, that is EXTREME sarcasm at this point.

Enjoy the Ride and the investment. :)

I just got this link in my Email and I have to say I am NOT SURPRISED in any way........another of MANY of the same issue that I have described so vivivdly below. As I drive my beautiful Cadillac that I would just LOVE to trade in (and every time a dealership looks up my VIN # they fall off their chair in a full blown laughing state....asking me what do you want me to do with this car, and in all honesty I DO HAVE A CONSCIENCE and wouldn't dump this beauty on anyone other than a JUNK YARD if I could) but can't trade in because of the VALUE which has dropped significantly because of the many issues....and because MOST people now realize that GM and Cadillac are not doing much to fully correct these "little" issues or fully acknowledge that they are ALL related to the ECM/ TCM commiunication or previous recall and reprogramming corrections or lack of......Hmmmmmm!!!!! Well, I am hoping they have taking the time out of their busy lives to send the gentleman below a card during his recovery. I am hoping that eventually the defective vehicles will eventually be pulled from the highways....either to the Junk yards, or into the hands of a dealership, or WELL MEANING GM or CADILLAC EXECUCTIVES who will STAND BEHIND their products 100%.

Here is the Latest filed report dated 10-12-2011.....mycarstats.com/reports/cadillac/srx/2005/comments.aspx....Happy Reading!!!

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10429582

Component: SUSPENSION

Details: I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHEN MY "VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL" HAS TURNED ON BY ITSELF CAUSING THE ENTIRE CAR TO VIOLENTLY JERK TO THE RIGHT SIDE. I WAS COMING OFF OF A EXIT ON 8/18/2011 AT ABOUT 40MPH ONCE AGAIN THE TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON FOR NO REASON CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JERK VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT, I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, JUMPED A CURB, HIT A LIGHT POLE AND ROLLED INTO THE TREES. CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CONCIOUSNESS, MISS 6 WEEKS FROM WORK AND INCURE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIR COSTS AND MEDICAL EXPENSES. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE RIGHT SIDE FRONTAL CRASH. THE SEATBELT CAUSED 3 HERNIATED DISKS IN MY NECK THAT I AM STILL BEING TREATED FOR. IN ADDITION TO THAT THE TRANSFER CASE CHAIN SNAPPED AND I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR.

I may go down as the longest post ever.....perhaps the most stubborn, and in response to Tricia from Customer Service AM I HAVING A PROBLEM CURRENTLY? Could you please take the time to read back? There is a lengthy post prior to this response, however you can't presume to think this beautiful cady disappeared, or was suddenly "fixed". You don't think that "currently" ALL ECM, TCM, or RECALLS from Cadillac or GM regarding this ivery same issue have been currently without problems? Or, Tricia do you think my integrity suddenly fell through the cracks? Doing the RIGHT THING is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than the all American buck!! 3 more reports via email today courtesy of National Highway and Safety Administration.......I ONLY copied and pasted ONE and it just floored me because guess what component it involved.....???THE ECM and it goes something, or exactly like this since it was taken verbatim:

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10432419

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Details: MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY WHEN SHE SAW SMOKE COMING OFF THE CRACKS OF THE DRIVERS SIDE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE HOOD WAS CLOSED AND HAD LOTS OF BLACK SMOKE GUSHING OUT OF THE CRACKS AND IT SMELLED LIKE BURNING PLASTIC. I TRIED STARTING THE VEHICLE AND TO MY SURPRISE THE VEHICLE STARTED BUT MOST OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS WERE SHOWING ERRORS IN THE DASH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT CAREFULLY TO THE NEAREST CADILLAC DEALER (LAVERY AUTO) IN ALLIANCE, OH. WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR I WAS UNABLE TO TAKE OFF THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION BECAUSE THE SECURITY SYSTEM ALSO HAD AN ERROR. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE AC COMPRESSOR HAD CAUGHT FIRE AND ALSO MELTED THE WIRING. THIS HAD ALSO DESTROYED THE COMPUTER ECM OF THE VEHICLE. THEY REPAIRED IT AND I BROUGHT THE SRX BACK HOME IN THE EVENING OF 10/14/11 AND PARKED IT IN MY DRIVE WAY. THE NEXT MORNING I FOUND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND HAD TO USE MY WIFES CAR TO JUMP START. THE SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY MORNING AND HAD TO CALL UP A TOW TRUCK TO JUMP START THE SRX. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER (LAVERY AUTOMOTIVE) AND THEY FOUND THAT ANOTHER RELAY WAS BAD DUE TO THE FIRE AND THEY REPLACED THIS TOO. I SPENT OVER $1,500 TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE THE RECEIPTS WITH FULL EXPLANATIONS. I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO INVESTIGATE THE REASON FOR THIS FIRE THAT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO INJURE ME AND MY FAMILY AND ALSO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IF POSSIBLE IN HAVING GENERAL MOTORS REIMBURSE ME FOR THESE CHARGES BECAUSE OF POOR SAFETY AND QUALITY IN THIS VEHICLE. THANK YOU.

Tricia,
I posted again this evening Tricia.....and have been for months. Perhaps you will have the same spirit to WANT to make a difference, OR....you will read and hear what a proper suit and tie combination in a board room tells you to comprehend, relay that information.....bury your soul, collect your pay check....ALL with a smile. What vehicle will you be using to drive your family to Michigan to the cottage during the holidays?

Did you send her your VIN # like she asked you to do ? If so, then you have a gripe. Otherwise, send it to her and wait for her reply before griping.

Not really a story, more of a rant. You were right about venting. I expect you have a better documented history than one large run together paragraph. I am truly sorry for your troubles and the feelings of doubt when you drive your car.

Just this last Saturday, when we were signing the papers for our new 2012 Terrain, the dealer rep was telling us all the things that are not covered by the powertrain warranty. Of course, he was trying to sell us the extended warranty at the time and was telling us how much it would cost for a few repairs not covered by the warranty. As a general rule, extended warranties are over priced and leave much to be desired. We declined and will pay when something is not covered. They had an interesting twist this time, they would give us the money back for the extended warranty if we got through the warranty period and did not use the warranty.

Sounds like you may have benefited from extended warranty.

HoHoHo.....Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!! Particulary the fine folks at GM and Cadillac (......Thank you for IGNORING all the safety issues of my vehicle and MANY others especially after you asked for my VIN# and I QUICKLY supplied it to Tricia....Customer Service....via email)

A couple of new reports I'd like to share courtesy of National Highway and Safety Administration that were filed recently.....Not surprising they validate MY VERY CONCERN and are also being investigated and go as follows and dated as such:

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10438903
Component: POWER TRAIN
Details: TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CADILLAC SRX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL WHINING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PRIVATE MECHANIC FOR MAINTENANCE WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR RACK AND PINION WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V589000
( POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT:SEAL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 109,000. KMJ
Occurrences: 1 Injuries: 0
Fail Date: 12/06/2011 Deaths: 0
Date added to database: 12/7/2011

AND:

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10433512

Component: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

Details: WHEN STOPPING, THEN STARTING UP (WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, LIKE AT A STOP SIGN) THE 2005 CADILLAC SRX WILL OFTEN FAIL TO MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED AND THE +TRACTION CONTROL+ INDICATION LIGHTS UP ON THE RADIO. THIS ALSO HAPPENS SOMETIMES WHEN TURNING WITHOUT STOPPING. IT HAPPENS ON LEVEL GROUND AND WHEN GOING UP INCLINES. IT MAKES A GRINDING SOUND (LIKE WHEN GEARS ARE RAKED IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION.) BY LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THEN RE-APPLYING IT, THE CAR WILL MOVE, BUT THE HESITATION IS VERY DANGEROUS. IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT LET OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR DURING ONE OF THESE EPISODES, THE CAR WILL VERY SLOWLY BEGIN TO MOVE AND EVENTUALLY ACCELERATE NORMALLY. THIS HAPPENS ON WET OR DRY PAVEMENT, WITH NO REASON FOR LOSS OF TRACTION. +TURNING OFF+ THE TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE BY PRESSING THE BUTTON ON THE CONSOLE DOES NOT ALWAYS PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR OF THE PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THE DEALER HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR SOLVE THE DEFECT. ze=10pt](M=10pt][i/i]I PUT MY SAFETY AND OTHERS AT RISK WITH EVERY MILE THAT I DRIVE THIS CAR.

BEST CHRISTMAS EVER....Not for GM/ Cadillac to suddenly write me a check or give me a new car....but to CORRECT a WRONG for OTHERS who don't have the means to get out from under that vehicle. My family all have cars I can drive....my husband has a company auto (NOT a GM....LOL), my daughter has a beautiful Volvo, my son a BMW!! But, Best Christmas present would be for GM/ Cadillac to get the SAFETY issue settled for ALL others settled ONCE AND FOR ALL and for them to OWN IT!! Merry Christmas and Happy Hollidays to ALL. Ho Ho Ho.
