I bought a new RS in March. It is down about 1/2 quart of oil. Is that normal?

I’m no mechanic, and I could be completely wrong here, but (assuming you’re right about it being down 1/2 qt) ... I wouldn’t worry about it (yet). I think there’s a “wear-in” period you need to get by first. But keep an eye on it. I’m thinking it’ll stabilize shortly.

We have a 2021 Equinox, the oil was changed at the first 3000 miles and was still reading full. Are you giving the oil time to drain back into the pan before checking it?

Did you check the oil when you took delivery of the vehicle, did it read full?
Sometimes the vehicle can come from the factory with a different oil filter that is installed on the assembly line.
Make sure the oil level and filter is right and keep an eye on it.

No I didn`t check the oil when I first got it. I have been buying from the same dealer for a long time...my mistake.
My last vehicle was a 2019 Equinox with a 2.0. It never used any oil in the 30,000 miles I had it. I changed oil every 4000 miles.
I bought this on impulse when I had my vehicle in for service. The RS just came in & it looked so pretty...
I am a old guy so you would think I should know better.
Went down to AutoZone & got a quart of Mobile 0-20. Put the oil in a little at a time so I would not overfill. It took about 10oz to hit the full mark.
Will keep checking it every couple of hundred miles.
