Just received 2020 Terrain SLT. It has a small “well” (for lack of a better word) that looks like a small storage space on drivers side on top of the dash about mid-way to the windshield. I believe it is actually the Front Collision Alert sensor but was hoping someone could confirm and explain how it works. If the sensor is in the ‘well’ how does it “see” what’s in front of the car? The Owners Manual points out the solar sensor , which is to the right of this and located in the middle, but ithe manual does not address the thing that I am asking about. Attaching a photo. Circled in red. Thank you.

What you are illlustrating is a head up display (HUD) for a front collision alert warning indicator. If the vehicle detects a potential forward collision condition, you will see a multi-segment red bar flashing in your forward field of view. It's projected on your windsheild, but focused out ahead of your vehicle so that you don't have to take your eyes off of what's in front of you. You will also either hear series of beeps or pulses in the driver's seat, depending on how you have configured your preferences via the infotainment system.
