sunroof shade has come loose from clips and is fully retracted. How to fix? Something I can do myself? Found one broken plastic clip on floor of car.

This system is definitely different to the Acadia listed above, as that is manual retraction, the Equinox is electric retraction.
Ok I just had this problem and (hopefully) managed to fix it. The white clips have a wavy end on one edge of the clip, that goes at the top, and pushes in to the rail that the black plastic part is attached to. So you have the shade folded over on itself, pull it past the black plastic part and slide back into it, then reach behind with the white clip and push it onto the back of the black plastic part in the direction of inside the car to outside the car (I hope that makes sense?) it should then clip into place firmly, do that on both sides and test full retraction. The photo is a bit hard to understand but that's how it should look from above when fitted.
This should not take a dealer more than 10 minutes and not hundreds of $$$, if I can figure it out with no trained mechanical knowledge. View attachment 18560
So when you state to fold the shade over itself… as the sajde is pulled towards the front, that end will fold up and over the black clip or down and under the balck clip?

Surprised these clips really hood the shade closed.

Thanks for the instructions. Does the sunroof need to be opened in order to fix this?

It can help if you need to get to it from a different angle.
Where can you get the white clips from? Dealer is $36 for each!!!

This is 100% the correct fix/repair for this. This just happened to my wife's Equinox. Being that I don't drive this vehicle that often, I never noticed how the shade was supposed to look like when properly assembled. The trickiest part for me was figuring out that the leading edge of the shade needed to be pulled past the actuator tabs then rolled on to itself and then slipped back on the tabs. Once I got that far, everything else made more sense. I kind of think that the white clips were an engineering after thought because the whole system works just fine without them.

Dude, I read your fix after having spent almost an hour spinning in circles as to how to fix such a seemingly easy fix! Just wrap it around once. You're brilliant. Took all of 20 seconds after reading your instructions to fix the sun shade. Thank you for potentially saving me mega time and $$. God bless your insights!

Can you do this with the sunroof closed?
This just happened to me tonight, if anyone is in Southern MD and wants to make a step by step with photos, let me know.

Yes, just had to fix mine, it was so easy. might take some back and forth to get the shade taught but super easy.
I just found fully intact clip to my sunroof and noticed once side isn’t as tight(sunroof shade is fully closed and clip was sliding around). Does the clip go towards the back of the vehicle? Does the shade need to be opened to put the clip back on?

What is the part number for the white clips?
When I flexed mine, I didn’t need the clips at all- works perfect, nice and taught like new. I think the clips are what dislodged it the first time.
Just happened to my 2018 Terrain yesterday. Surely thus is a manufacturing flaw that showed be addressed under a recall.
Recalls are usually just safety related, which this is not.
Would be nice to see a video for the fix
