Sill under warranty ?
warranty expired 2 months ago----of course!
Hey it would not be the first time a dealer has warranted a part just a couple months after warranty. Go plead your case, worse they can say is no warranty coverage, trust me I heard they have ways around it.

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow.

Similar thing happened to me and I'm passed my warranty. The plastic clips that keep the shade attached to the metal moving parts snapped off. No idea how. It seems so easy to fix, but I can't do it with the sunroof closed and I can't open the sunroof with the shade closed (can't get the shade to go back at all.

What ended up happening for you?
This happened to mine 2 years ago. I worked at the dealership at the time so took it to service and while it was still under warranty they kept it for 3 days trying to replace that plastic clip. They finally sent it out to the company who does all their customizations to get it fixed. I doubt most of us would not be able to replace it ourselves
That happened to me yesterday. Has anyone figured out how to fix it?
A similar thing has occurred on Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia.

I am not sure this part is the same size as the Equinox/Terrain, but look at posts in this Acadia thread.
It has a few pictures, the part numbers and an owner who replaced the original rivets with trim screws.

There may be other part numbers for the plastic latch as well and available at many online parts sources.

Front sunshade retainer: 84691055 $13
Rear sunshade retainer: 84900118 $12

If it looks like this, it should work. GM uses many bit parts like this across platforms. If this part is a little different in size, a little grinding or filing may work.

Here is a Youtube on how an owner on an Acadia/Traverse/Enclave repaired this:

Were you able to fix this? The same thing happened to mine. I have the clips but can't seem to figure out how to put them back on.

I was not able to re-attach it properly but was able to flip the end over 90 degrees to hold it so it will open and close.
This system is definitely different to the Acadia listed above, as that is manual retraction, the Equinox is electric retraction.
Ok I just had this problem and (hopefully) managed to fix it. The white clips have a wavy end on one edge of the clip, that goes at the top, and pushes in to the rail that the black plastic part is attached to. So you have the shade folded over on itself, pull it past the black plastic part and slide back into it, then reach behind with the white clip and push it onto the back of the black plastic part in the direction of inside the car to outside the car (I hope that makes sense?) it should then clip into place firmly, do that on both sides and test full retraction. The photo is a bit hard to understand but that's how it should look from above when fitted.
This should not take a dealer more than 10 minutes and not hundreds of $$$, if I can figure it out with no trained mechanical knowledge.

So did you have any broken parts, or did it just somehow come apart on its own?
Nothing broken, the clips just popped off during a normal opening without any warning.
Perhaps temperature is the cause, if it's a hot day the sun could soften the clips as they are right below the glass, however our car is now 4 years old and it has never happened previously. So far all week the operation has been smooth and no issues. Fingers crossed it was a one off.

So this happened to me about 2 months ago. I found ONE fully intact white clip on the backseat but not another so I'm thinking that there is only one. I'm obviously wrong. I took it to my local dealer- Dyer Chevrolet in Vero Beach, FL - who told me 1. (You guessed it) my warranty had JUST expired 3 weeks ago and 2. they wanted $160 JUST to have a tech look at it!! What a bunch of crooks! And that was regardless of whether or not I had them fix it! I told them I brought it in to get fixed but they still wanted $160 PLUS whatever parts and labor was on top of it. Is this even normal?

So now I know I need the other clip but has anyone figured out how to fix it? Thank you guys for the help.
Your dealer sounds crooked, to me anyways.

I have the same issue, got mine back hooked up but I'm not sure it's right. Does the header end need to be folded over once? I don't remember seeing the end being black and having a label on it... Any help is appreciated, maybe a picture of how the end is supposed to look, as I forget! lol

Yep see my photo above. Fold over once, the black part is what hold onto the brackets, shouldn't be seen from below.
