2018 Equinox Diesel def level and should I do a delete?

Hi,

Just purchased a used 2018 Equinox Lt diesel. They just replaced the engine as it blew off at 132000kms. Car is in good shape, pretty happy with it so far.
Is there a way to see the DEF level in the dic or I will only receive a warning when low?
Also, they changed the dpf right before the engine blew off. Wonder if a clugged dpf could be the cause of the engine dying. There was an issue with one piston, not sure if a rod broke or something like that. Anyways, thinking of deleting it to make sure there is no issue. Is there anyone here that had engine issues with the 1.6?

Tha k you

I have a 2018 Diesel- you’ll only get a warning once it gets low. Another tip- don’t buy cheap DEF fluid. The system will know and it will give you a pop up message. Just go with the good stuff and you’ll be good to go. I have 65,000 miles on mine-

Thank you! So far, I purchased DEF at the dealership, would assume it's good. They sell quite a bit of diesel trucks so the turn around should be good.

it starts marking on the DIC when it reaches 30% or below otherwise it just says OK. you can use an obdii to read the level...but i have filled the tank and the obd read 45% ...so i think the level sensor reads correctly well at 30% or so.
And it will remind you more regularly when you have an estimated 1000 miles range and less

Do your mechanics know the cause?

We have the equinox...a 2018 model (remember only 2018 and 2019 exists for the Diesel...so it can be labelled "limited edition" !) which we bought in September 2017...manufactured date on the door jamb says July 2017...so it barely spent a couple of months on the dealership's lot. 60K miles (approx 96000 kms) on the counter
A friend has a nice 1 ton Ford - a local shop did a delete , the state seized the records of the shop and now tracks the inspections of those vehicles closely. The friend has a nice truck he can't get inspected.

Nice, guessing you are pretty satisfied! I used to do marketing at a GM dealership and they made me a really good deal. There are 2 things I never liked aboit those models: the 7in screen, they could have chose a better looking screen, that big rubber is so ugly. On the Terrain, you barely notice when it's the 7 or 8in. And the front seats are on the harder side and the leg support could be a bit longuer. Apart from that, it's a really good vehicle and way more reliable than the previous model!

There is a shop I know that does it here, where I live, they are not too strict. You can get caught when travelling though but a Terrain or Equinox goes under the radar. I did lots of reading on emissions though and morally, I think I would feel guilt to contribute giving cancer or respiratory problems to people around me... If I start getting issues with the dpf I might reconsider.

Did a lot of research before buying the car...6 years ago...remember reading about how "new" diesel engines (VW obviously should not be counted here) are cleaner than direct injection gasoline engines. Obviously it has more parts that can break...but apart from less NOx etc you can see the diesel tail pipe is clean and look at any 1.5l or 2.0l pipes they are black with soot. I remember there were suggestions of requiring DPF and SCR systems on gasoline direct injection to reduce particulates...but now with many countries having 2035 or so as limit to new ICE engine these drives for cleaning gasoline emissions are no longer being pushed.
As a child I recall seeing OTR diesel rigs smoking on grades like a coal train even at low elevations. It would turn the side of the trailer black. Since then fuel management, turbo chargers, ultra low sulfur fuel must have reduced emissions by 90% ....

I saw that they also caught Mercedes, BMW, Nissan and more... the Ram ecodiesel was also cheating emissions testing and they paid an amount which was less than vw, I wonder what they changed since then so it would be compliant. But yeah it's a good thing that they are now emitting less, must be costly and that's why they are phasing vehicles out and just keeping the trucks for power.
Having to limit short trips is definetly limiting the amount of diesel cars that can be sold since most people only drive in the city.

There are still a lot of diesel that dumps big clouds here, and owners seems to be proud lol
