2011 Owners Manual Doesn't Recommend Flushing

7267 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  GARYD
When performing an Oil Change, some forum members are using the Pela 6000 oil extractor. Does anybody know exactly why the owners manual does not recommend flushing the oil out, and is the "flushing" referred to the same or different than the procedure used by the Pela 6000 or similar vacuum pump oil extrators?

I really don't understand the reasoning of flushing the old oil during a oil change. If you warm up the engine before draining the old oil, very little old oil is left in the crank case after the draining occurs. This has been the process for a 100 years. Keep in mind, we're not talking a super high priced collectible car here, these are DAILY DRIVERS and will do just fine by simply DRAINING the warm oil!!!

GM customer service is in agreement with you. They recommend oil changes via the drain plug. They are not sure what possible damage could occur by flushing or using one of these:

In my day we use to clean the engine with Bardahl Engine Flush. You shouldn't flush an older engine because it could cause oil leaks. If you change your oil regularly there should be no reason to flush an engine. Even thought dealers are now recommending flushes.....they need the extra revenue. It's like paint protectant, upholstry treatment and undercoating......unnecessary.
