Am I the only one having a problem with the nav system being very inaccurate on this vehicle? It has been back to the dealer 3 times and still no fix. It is 4-5 blocks off and shows addresses on the wrong side of street and is missing roads. It is extremely frustrating to have this issue as the nav system was a major extra expense for us but we decided worth is as a lot of traveling to different locations daily is done. The dealer tells me it is a software problem with the satellite company and is not the vehicle. If this is the case every 2011 vehicle with this version of software has to be having the same problem and would not be limited to just the Equinox. So far I am the only one at the dealer to have this issue. They tell me to go the the software manufacturer website and leave them feedback, I have done this and even called them. They say I have to wait until enough people complain and they update the software again to have this issue resolved. This is unacceptable to me and is already been going on for 2 months. A new nav disc was tried but I already have the latest version installed.

Has anyone else experienced this or know anyone who has and what was done to resolve this?

Thank You

What a bummer. I can understand your anger. I had a similer problem on my Harley. When other chapter members would download a route my unit would be off slightly. I found out I had the wrong version. I had version 2009 and they had version 2010. Once I updated to 2010 the routes matched.
I can't imagine the dealer can't update the unit unless it is not a software problem. It doesn't sound like a typical install problem.

The dealer seems certain it is a software problem with this version, and the problem will be present until they come up with the next update. The only thing they can tell me is to leave feedback with the problems detailed and if the manufacturer gets enough complaints they will come up with an update. My problem with this is that I can not find another person or locate a dealer that has had the same issue that I am having. They have not installed a new nav system yet and have to talk to a rep to see what he or she recommends as the next step. Suprisingly enough when I contacted the manufacturer of the nav software I was told "this maye be as good as it gets". The dealer acts as this is a common problem although I am the only person to come forward so far, and I know I am not the only person in the US that has this version of the software.

try your luck at another dealers shop.
I think that is what I may have to do. I was hoping that the dealer I got it from could help, but it does not look that way so far...

Our 2010 'Nox has the Nav system and it has been spot on since we've owned the vehicle....making a couple of long trips (ie. Nebraska to Pennsylvania). Good luck with your issue. I haven't seen anybody else on here having that issue yet. :-\

This is exactly what we were hoping for when we ordered this option. We have a portable garmin that gets us to the front door of anyplace we want to go. There cant be too many people that are having this problem or there would be a bulletin describing a fix or what to do I would think. I was told "maybe the people with nav systems don't use them and just have not noticed the problem so far" from the dealer. To which my response was who in their right mind would spend $2145 on an option and not use it?? This is just helping to confirm that the problem is indeed isolated to my vehicle and not widespread as they want me to believe.

Deuce, are you in a Metro area or out in the farmlands somewhere?
Is the unit off-mark all over the place or just in certain regions?

Does it display that you're at a major interchange or intersection within a few feet of when you get there?
Just trying to understand the problem here a little better, I guess?

Our NAV used to take us right to our front door but somehow I messed up the stored location and now it says we're home when we're actually about a 1/2 block away.
The subdivision is 15 years old but there are still maps that don't have our street on it, just FYI.

I was messing with way points or something like that and never really bothered to investigate, but it does seem right on when we travel out of town or into the city.
I just took one of our dogs to a new vet out in the country and the NAV brought us right to their driveway.

Gearhead,

The unit is off all over the place, rural areas, small towns, big cities. The cursor showing your location always appears pretty close to true present location, but the destination the unit sends you to is off from actual and more often that not on the wrong side of the street. When you get the message similar to "your destination is ahead on the right" or however is is worded you are either past your desired location or it is past where unit takes you to. For example, my house is in the 800 block on the even (west) number side, and the unit shows that is is in the 500 block on the odd (east) side. I wish it was as simple as me having goofed up settings, but that is not the case. The dealer has attempted to renew some codes or something, and has re downloaded current software version with no change. It has been inaccurate since we picked it up from the dealer the day it was delivered.

Wow, definitely something amiss with your unit.
Call GM Customer Service and tell them your Dealer is not helping much.
You paid big bucks, relatively speaking, for a functional NAV unit that is not working.

If your Dealer has never swapped one out, maybe there's another Dealer close by that has.
Dealer Techs are supposed to be trained by GM and up-to-date as much as possible.
The Theta vehicles have been out for over a year and a half, that's plenty of time to send Techs for training, IMO.

Stay on them Deuce, the squeaky wheel gets the grease and GM is trying to improve the Customer Experience so go to the top if you have to,around your Dealer right to GM.

I have contacted GM and had my call returned by a very nice but not very helpfull lady who "was just checking to see if I had my problem resloved yet" but could offer no other assistance. This apparently is also the person to whom my email was forwarded to stating what you suggest that the dealer is unable to fix my problem. It is like beating my head against the wall! The time before this they talked about swapping the unit out then backed off of that. They make it a point to tell me how many hours each time their mechanic has worked on it and 'has not made a dime", I kind of feel bad for the guy, but it is not my fault!

Keep at them Deuce. I doubt the service tech is not getting paid. **** right it's not your fault. What a stupidass answer that no one is using their nav syatem since they bought the car. I played with mine before even leaving the dealer.

I'm really beginning to think you need to get a different dealer.

I wonder if you can get ahold of an install disk from a 2010 Terraine/Nox and see if that might work. Don't know if it is any different then the current disk.

Would this be concidered elligable for the lemon law if you bring it in 4 times without success?

Who talked about swapping the unit out, the Dealer or GM?
Demand either one swap the unit out.
Who cares how much time the Mechanics spent on it?
As GaryD and I stated, take it to a different Dealer, call GM and have them recommend one that knows how to swap the unit, even if you have to get a loaner for a couple of days.

It's a brand new vehicle and NAV you paid for, it's warranty, end of story.
Fix it or get me a new vehicle if you can't swap the NAV (ok a little extreme, but don't back down ;) ).

For the most part I think our Terrain's NAV is OK, but at times it really gives bad instructions compared to my Garmin or our previous RX330's NAV. And I'm talking about the same route for each unit. I also really hate the layout of the soft keyboard for entering a destination. I wish GM would have used a QWERTY layout.

I agree that Tom Tom and Garmin have a superior product when it comes to keeping maps up to date.
Hopefully GM's supplier gets enough people complaining and catches up with their maps.

As far as the QWERTY layout for the keyboard, remember not everyone is familiar with QWERTY or keyboards for that matter, so it's mostly subjective.
We don't use ours that often so the "Auto Complete" in the data entry fields makes up for the keyboard layout, IMO.

The dealer originally mentioned swapping the unit out, then changed their mind after talking to the rep and decided on the disc updated which was the same version I already have anyway so it was not helpful. My question about taking it to a different dealer is, will there be any charge to me since I did not buy vehicle from them and am currently working with the dealer I got vehicle from? I totally agree it is a warranty issue and I also feel if they cant fix it they need to make it right by whatever means it takes, and if that is a new vehicle then so be it, but I doubt they (this dealer) would go that far. But I do not plan on backing down, they tell me it will be a week until they have more info since the rep is in Vegas now.

I have one more time to bring it in and that makes 4 and I think the lemon law should appy. I think they know this also since they had the new disc sent to me and wanted me to do the uodate myself. I refused of course and took it in for them to do.
