2011 Equinox Alarm

Does anyone know how to shut off the alarm without the RKE? A hypothetical situation would be:

1) I lock the vehicle with the RKE
2) I no longer subscribe to OnStar.
3) I lose the RKE....I'm traveling and don't have a spare, so I go to a locksmith or GM dealer and get a key made.
4) I open the door with the new key and trigger the alarm.

HOW DO I NOW SHUT OFF THE *%@*&% ALARM?

Unlocking the door with a key should disable the alarm. I have never tried it but this is how every other factory alarm I have had has operated.

put the key in the ignition and turn the car on. the horn will stop and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the info....putting the key in the ignition and turning it on shuts off the alarm!!

FYI- opening the door with a key after locking with RKE triggers the alarm just as explained the manual.

I was startled a week ago when I decided to unlock my door with the key just because I was curious. Why should opening the door with the key instead of the RKE cause the alarm to go off?

Because when someone breaks the window out and reaches in to manually unlock the door, you want your alarm to go off.

True, but the design of the little push buttons in the doors look as if they are flush (and therefore not able to be pulled up) when the doors are locked. In my old Ford it would make sense (the buttons were still popped up slightly when the doors were locked and could easily be pulled up by a thief.

Agreed, Equinox is harder to manually unlock than say a tahoe or a malibu, but it can be done. I think the alarm should go off when the glass breaks, but GM thinks otherwise.

They can just reach in and pull the handle, that unlocks the door. If you're that desperate to steal a car, you'll figure out the tricks.
