Bought a 2010 Equinox LTZ with 80K miles from a Ford dealer in Dec 2018, CarFax report looked great, maintenance etc.

Had a 3 month warranty, no extended warranty, 5 months later the putting in gear there was an occasional short delay going into gear, called the dealer and said to keep an eye and when it comes time for service they'd look at it.

Car ran fine until the weather turned colder in Oct 2019. Had the car serviced and inspected, asked the service tech to check the tranny, he told me fluid was ok but should have the tranny checked by a Chevy service since they don't service them.

Long story short, took the car to a Chevy dealer, and a transmission co. Both indicated the tranny was shot and would have to be replaced, along with the timing belt. Whistled 6,000 to repair. This Equinox has only 90,000 miles on it now.

Do I have any chance to argue or fight this?

Costs zero to argue it, and very big upside. Do it

You need to do some serious shopping around.
Below is a link for a transmission from Gmpartsdirect.
Units are factory rebuilt with a warranty, for $2388 plus shipping.

You have other options like a local tranny shop rebuild or wrecking yard.
Timing chain at 90K is normal, be sure to do the water pump while it's apart.
I assume you have the 2.4L cyl.
