Was your key off and vehicle in the retained energy mode and when your child opened the door it cut the power?
Page 156 of the Online Owner Manual...

http://www.cadillac.com/assets/pdf/owners/manuals/manuals_2007/2007_cadillac_srx_owners.pdf

discusses operation of the sun roof...is it possible your son placed his hand or an object in the path of the roof and the anti-pinch was activated?

Also...RAP (Retained Accessory Power) is discussed on page 118...it is active for 10 minutes or until a door is opened

Retained Accessory Power (RAP)
The following accessories on your vehicle may be
used for up to 10 minutes after the ignition key
is turned from ON to OFF:
• Radio
• Power Windows
• Audio Steering Wheel Controls
• Sunroof
Power to these accessories stops after 10 minutes
or if a door is opened. If you want power for
another 10 minutes, close all the doors and turn
the ignition key to ON and then back to OFF.

Could either of these have been involved?

hi there,
thanks that might explain it.I however turned the engine on hoping that would help and it still couldn't close under its own steam,it needed a gentle push.
I've not tried it recently........SNOW !!
thanks

Ok...well with your other posts (concerning transmission shifts and tires)...
I guess I am curious if the SRX is "new to you" or if you bought it new

What (if you recall) was the temperature when you tried the sunroof? You said it was

so it begs the question of sluggish operation related to temperature...and/or...are the "tracks"
free of debris? How was the speed when it was opening?
If you bought it used...did you "check it out" before you bought?
Could the "tracks" need lubrication? Cold weather increases the "viscosity" of lubricants so if it was really cold...could this have made the operation sluggish?
Also possibly related...is this the original battery? It is conceivable after 4 years that a new battery may be called for.
How long had the engine been off when you tried it...and what other things were you checking out at the time...
Marginal batteries exhibit their weakness more prominately when temperatures are cold.
Could the sluggish operation be related to the SRX being in RAP mode for several minutes while you were looking at other "features" and then tried the sunroof?
I can envision a weak battery...discharging while under RAP...not supplying the "juice" needed to close the roof immediately after starting the engine...

hi there,
i bought it used last month as an optimum used vehicle from a cadillac dealership.
it worked great when i first tested it and consequently showing the kids etc
it opened perfectly.
it was a nice day about +9,snowed that evening, but it had been cold prior.
it appears to be very well lubricated.
engine had been off for a few hours, not sure about the battery,it's covered over in insulation.
i had been showing my new (used) SRX to my neighbor,NAV,Cd,Sat radio etc,key in on position.
it could of been in RAP mode, but i started the engine and that didn't help, maybe it needs time to 're-set' ? any ideas ?
thanks

So it appears this was a "one time malfunction" at this point?

No opportunity to retry yet (snow)?

Got a garage? Take it inside, clear off the snow, start the engine (garage door open for safety) and try again...or...find a parking garage and try it there...

Hard to say without more "input"/second attempt under optimum conditions (engine running)
hi there,
I'll do just that,thanks.
I'll let you know the out come.

Hi there,
It's been a while and the weather is finally good.
The sunroof operates flawlessly.
All the best
