$2 Purolator PureOne Filters After Rebate

I just got in on 4 of these (Max allowed) for $5 minus $3 mail in rebate. This is a REALLY good deal, however, it looks like they won't ship until end of the month/ early May. This is fine with me as I have a WIX to get me by for now.

Here is the link to the Rebate form and Amazon.com for the 4 cylinder filter (I am sure 6 cylinder is on there but didn't have time to look up)

I follow slickdeals religiously, has saved me a ton over the years I have been used them. I try to not think of the unnecessary stuff I have also bought on the site but, hey it was a good deal.
these filters should fit a 2011 LS 4 cyl

They will fit 2010 - 2011 4 cylinder, picture looks just like my WIX filter I got on amazon and the configurator on Amazon says it fits.
I’m not trying to act like an oil filter guru or step on anyone’s toes but there’s a few things you should know about PureOne oil filters.
The PureOne oil filter is one of the best but there is something everyone should be aware of. The PureOne provides excellent filtration because they have the largest amount of filter material (from what I've read) of any oil filter; that can be good or bad depending on how often you change your oil. If you change it every 3,000 to 3,500 mile they are great. If you use full synthetic like me and change your oil and filter every 7,500 miles you may starve the engine of oil and make your oil pump work harder unless you change the filter about half way thru the 7,500 miles. Read the bold print at the bottom of this link from the Purolator site.
http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/products/oil_filters/Pages/pureoneoilfilters.aspx

Our Terrain is new but I plan on changing from the synthetic blend that comes in it to Mobil 1 full synthetic and a Mobil 1 oil filter at about 1,000 mile and every 7,500 miles just like I do on our Enclave. Yes the Mobil 1 filter is expensive but it is an extended service filter with synthetic filter material that is made for longer service intervals.

Just my opinion of course.

I am really shocked that people think this is a bad deal, am I missing something besides the fact that PureOne filters are $2 after rebate? I paid $8 for WIX, is the quality really that much better and should I not bother with buying these Purolator ones?

Does anyone have any proof that these filters are not good? I hate to rely on one persons opinion
The Pure One for the V-6 is hard to find for some reason. It also fits the Jeep V-6, and other Dodge and Ford engines besides the 3.0 GM V-6.

The PL22500 is almost always not stocked anywhere. :banghead:
Amazon doesn't carry it either.

I generally watch for sales on filters, but of late, most auto parts chains only offer oil+filter deals.
No sales on the filters alone. The usually source for me dropped Purolator brand to make more room for those orange cans from Fram.
Called the 'orange can of death' by oil nuts. The Fram Tough Guarp and Extended Guard filters are good choices however. :thumb:
Advance Auto has an oil filter package 5 quarts Castrol Syn and a Pureone filter for $19.99. You can get another $3.00 off with the rebate. Not bad.

You must be getting a different ad than the link below. According the North/South current ad the synthetic blend with the filter is 21.99; what they call their full synthetic with a KN filter is 27.99. I'll stick with Moble 1 for a few dollars more; it's on sale at Advance or Auto
Zone every few months with a Moble 1 filter (most of the time) for around 32.00 http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/wcsstore/CVWEB/Attachment/staticbusinesscontent/image/AAP-Apr-2011-Flyer.pdf

Please note that I did not say the PureOne was a bad oil filter in fact I said it was supposed to be one of the best if changed about every 3000 to 3500 miles--------just read what Pureolator states in bold print at the bottom of the link I listed in my original post. Also check this out.

As I stated Im not an oil filter expert------------like Will Rogers said " I only know what I read in the news paper" (in this day the internet)
I also stated it was just my opinion. Please don't let my humble opinion hold you back.
I don't need oil though. I have 7 changes worth of oil now.
My grip is the availability of the V-6 filter.
I will buy the Fram XG10575 should I need a filter before I find the Pure 1's I need.
I still have a 'free' change coming from the dealer.

I bought a few weeks ago. Price must have gone up. I use syn blend and the Purone filter. I have some OEm filters too.
it states: "or unless otherwise specified by the cars manufacturer"...so if the manufacturer has an oil life monitor, isn't purolator saying you can follow that with their filter?? :thumb:

You might be willing to take that chance; I'm not. They didn't just pick 3,000 miles out of thin air.
As I stated before the PureOne is a highly rated filter and provides excellent particle removal but it's a two edged sword. The filter has the most filter material of any filter I've seen tested and for that reason it also tends to restrict oil flow after a period of time (probably about 3,000 miles) and therefore reduces oil pressure. The 2.4 DI engine likes clean oil and good oil pressure so I'll error on the side of caution. IMHO Wix, NAPA Gold (made by Wix) and Mobil 1 are better choices even though they cost more than the PureOne.

Just my opinion of course.
Decent deal at best. Mail-in rebates can take several weeks or even months to arrive..and sometimes never. Even if you do get it, remembering to deposit such a small check can be a pita. :-[ For people who don't mind such things it can be a great deal, just keep in mind that companies who do this are banking on the fact that a large percentage of people will never send in the rebate form...if every single person that bought a pure-one filter sent in the form then they would be in trouble.. ;)
did the oil change company's just pick the 3K mile number out of thin air?? imho it would take ALOT of contaminant partially blocking a pure one for it to lower oil pressure?? hmmmmmm

I just had the dealer do a free oil change for my Saturn. The "Change Oil Soon" light came on after 3 months and 2000 miles. They must have forgot to reset the OLM. I have had dealers not do the changes properly (ie Not changing an oil filter). I prefer to do my own changes.
I bought 3 filters from Amazon, they came yesterday and I mailed the rebate form out today. thanks for the tip, I paid over $9.00 at Advance auto for the first one I bought. I only have 4000 mi. on my Nox and have changed the oil once. I have read good things from independent sources about the Pureone filters.
