I don't have a 2016, and my 2011 doesn't even have AWD, but I thought switchable AWD was a new phenomena for the Gen-3 Equinox/Terrain (2018 and beyond).
In other words - I don't think the Gen-2's (or, actually ... Gen-1 Terrain, since the Terrain started with the Gen-2 Equinox) came with that capability.
Yes, stock there is no way to turn off. I'm sure with the right software tools it could be done*, but why would you want to?
* I say this because in the event of a wheel speed sensor failure, or crumbling of the hub's magnetic ring (where wheel speed cannot be read), the system defaults to front wheel drive. And loses traction control, ABS, and stability control. So the computer does have control over AWD engagement, and can completely shut it off.
what i’m saying is i don’t recall seeing any electrical connectors on the transfer case, we just had ours replaced last fall and i picked it up i remember thinking it was odd there was no electrical connections
