spartus One drop of antifreeze from the heater core can smell up the interior pretty good. I’d say heater core too. Especially if you have not kept up on coolant flushes to clean out the old acidic coolant. As a last ditch effort you could always try k-seal. Or even some AC Delco coolant tablets.

Urbansuburban My money is on the heater core, check your inside windows and see if you getting a film as that is where the air with the smell will go. As others have said, you need to change it out if you can confirm that is what it is.

Enigma GM used to use & sell these gel caps for the cooling system. They never made the coolant look murky & worked great,. Not sure if they still sell them or what ?

RIT333 A whiff of anti-freeze comes from a very small loss of coolant. You can probably go for years without noticing any level drop, but it will most likely NOT heal itself, so if you plan to keep the car, you should probably fix it. Oh - it is more than likely a leak in the heater core. It could be the hose connections at the firewall, but more than likely not. you can probably try some of the stop-leak additives, but use them with caution - they could crud something else up.

Never done one on the Equinox, but with my Maxima, I had to pull the whole dash out, and it wasn't fun. Likely I picked a nice fall day, so at least the weather was nice.
