It wasn't the auction that was the problem. That grabbed my attention to look into it more as there are flood cars being shifted through the country. One dealer in the region got the truck from a lease, after just 2 years. That dealer within the same month sent it off to auction. It's not high miles, and it's not a base model truck. So it struck me as a red flag that they didn't even want to put it on their lot. It's all of about $700 less than a similar truck that comes certified with a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty. Though, I assume both should actually have the remainder of their bumper-to-bumper warranty.
There is someone selling their 2011 Equinox locally. They said they just bought it from the dealer 2 weeks ago, but it's too small. They claim it was a buy-back from California because it didn't meet emissions standards, but then they posted a pic of the window sticker. The sticker clearly says it was a "lemon" because of the oil consumption. That's one of those auction cars that really puts me off. Though I wish I could go to the auction myself I'd take the risk a little more for the discount.

|JayFL459||Definitely worth checking into before purchase .. Was a bit leery of my 2013 Buick Verano as was a rental car with 16,000 miles but the Salesman was up front about it and said take a long test ride and don't like we got plenty more options .. 55,000 miles on it now without a problem ..|

For the record, Going through an auction does not mean there is something wrong with it. It means that the dealer had it on the lot and decided to move it from inventory. They do this for many reasons, outside of the vehicle having issues. It could be that the particular model has been in their inventory for a while and they want something new. It could be a lease trade in, and they already have several comparable ones in inventory. It could be that they are just trying to reduce their overhead and free up capital. Or it could be that the leasing company requires it to go to auction when turned in if the dealer doesn't want to buy it for a specific price.
Basically, the auction is how dealers move used inventory, not just to dump problem cars.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The truck I was looking at was at a dealer, sent to auction, purchased by another near by dealer and is on their lot. I'm going to pass though. There is a similar priced one closer that's certified.
I am aware of some of the issues with this generation of Silverados, but nearly all locally are 6 speed. There are a lot of 8 speed Rams that are a little cheaper, but I haven't looked into that. The worst complaint I've really seen is that the AC condensers fail from a rock impact.

|garagerog||Buggsy, I have a low mileage 2005 K1500 so I am a frequent visitor to a couple of Silverado forums and there seem to be a couple of common complaints about the era of Silverado you're interested in. One is the quirkiness of the 8-speed transmission, harsh downshifts especially, sometimes reprogramming helps, but a lot of owners get the line operates as designed. The other common complaint is the Chevy shake, usually above 70 mph and there doesn't seem to be a common resolution to this. Some owners have reported resolution with a force wheel balance, but others have had to have the driveline replaced, the torque converter replaced if a pan drop and filter change doesn't rid the transmission of some new assembly gunk, and most troubling of all some owners have gone through all of the above with no resolution and result to their state's lemon law. So, if you're still interested in this Silverado, make sure your test drive includes a freeway stretch where you can get up to 80 mph or so.|

Maybe combination of it not being crew cab or 4WD meant it would be sitting for a long time on the lot, so better just to auction and get rid of it? Are there any sinister issues with the Silverado (like the early Equinoxes) that might make it a candidate to be sold at auction (where buyers would be less likely to catch the problem)?
Will you be able to give it a good checkout, or is this really an auction situation where you only get a quick look, make your payment, and drive it home? Good thing with the auction purchase is you normally get a good enough price that it protects you against big repair bills that usually reveal themselves fairly quickly.

I don't think dealers mind at all if they have a competitor brand
car or truck on their lots. Looks like someone traded it in on their product.
Can't think of a GOOD reason for a one year old vehicle to be up for auction.
Flood damage? Lemon?
I'd steer clear.
