New Terrain owner/ moonroof question

Hello, happy to say I will be picking up my new 2019 SLT Terrain next week and I cannot wait. I began my vehicle search with an open mind, really considering all options among sedans and smaller SUV's. I've always liked the look of the Terrains so I started googling... Almost immediately I saw "BLACK EDITION" and told my wife this was meant for me! Black/gray are my colors and it took a couple of weeks but I finally found the trim, options, color (Satin Steel Metallic), and most importantly price that convinced me to go for it. I won't be able to pick it up until next Tuesday but in the meantime I'll just pore through this forum.

One question I have that I haven't been able to determine watching video reviews and whatnot is does the moonroof open all the way back, meaning open air above the rear seat passengers too? Or does the open air portion just open up above the front seat passengers and great seat has glass overhead the whole time? Just curious. The Terrain I was able to spend time at a dealer with for research purposes didn't have a moonroof and I didn't think to ask.

Thanks!

Congrats on your new baby. The front sunroof is the only one that opens, the sun shade goes all the way back.

My panoramic sun roof opens past the passenger seats in front, but the rear passengers are covered. It opens more than a standard sun roof (moon roof). Congrats on your choice. I took my SLT all black with the black edition and the black lettering. Looks amazing! I painted my calipers red this week and it really turned out nice. I'm very pleased. I painted them with a paint brush instead of the aerosol, as it is less messy and you don't need to take the calipers off to do a good job.

Two coats was sufficient. The first coat was a base coat, so it's important not to slather the paint on. Just enough to cover. The second coat is thicker, but don't press on the paint brush too hard. The paint will extend itself. I used Dupli-Color.

Next I will wrap my tail ligths with a smoke finish using the VViViD product. Also the interior has a dark wood trim which I'm not too crazy about, so I will wrap that too with VViViD's carbon fiber wrap. Can't wait so see how it turns out.

Thanks!! I'm really excited. Flying to St. Louis to pick it up and drive it back home to TN. I feel like it's crazy and I almost talked myself out of it but my wife talked some sense into me and told me "this one has everything you want at a deal others can't match, do it!" Totally unlike me to go through this much trouble for a vehicle but once I saw black edition and the color I wanted, I could not rest until I found it. Of course the best deal had to be all the way in St. Louis, but I think I will be pleased once I get my new baby back home. I feel like I would've regretted it if I would've let this one go.

I remember seeing you post this in one of the other threads with some pics and I thought to myself "ohhh, that's what I need to do". So if you don't mind can I ask some more questions (I'd also love to see pics of the the final product on your calipers if it's not too much trouble). You inspired me about the tail lights too! I'm def. gonna look into that. Pardon the nerd question but, is it legal to tint tail lights? Will you have to remove the dark wood trim to apply the carbon fiber wrap? I hadn't really thought about the trim inside but what you are talking about looks really cool in my head.

Ideally I wanted to get one with the black badges but in the end had to go with the best deal... wasn't gonna pay thousands more from a different dealership just for the black badge. I tried to get them to match the deal I ended up going with and they couldn't. Has anyone ever been able to determine why some black editions have red badges and some have black? All the other features seem to be identical.

Your local GM dealer should be able to hook you up with the various badges. You can also try online at the GM Parts stores. If neither of them can take care of you, stop by the body shop of you local GM/Chevy dealer. Putting the new badges on is rather easy once you get the old ones off.

As a second option, Plasti-Dip works well and will last for years and the worst case if you make a mistake is you peel it off and redo it. It is inexpensive to do plasti-dip and it can be a good way to try a color change being spending the money on the new badges. Just make sure you painters tape on the body areas and don't let the tape sit too long.

I've actually used plasti dip in the past trying to achieve the look of the black edition (before it ever existed). Like you said, it's good because it's not permanent so one can play around with it. Thanks for the tip though.

The black GMC logo on the front and rear was a $200 option that I thought was worth it and save me the headache of going after market. Wrapping the back tail lights might be an issue depending on the laws where you live. Here in Quebec it's tolerated to certain degree, like tinted windows. I'm going with a light smoke versus a dark so I should be okay. If some over zealous officer gives me warrant which is usually 24 hours to get them removed, it's not a problem as the wrap peels right off. The interior wrap comes easily off as well.

Here are the picc of the calipers. Once I get around doing the tail lights and interior, I'll post those as well. I've got other priorities to take care of, so it might take a few weeks. Keep browsing the forum on a regular basis and you'll eventually find the pics.

Thank you for taking the time to post those pics. I look forward to seeing how the tail light and interior wrap turn out, when you get time of course. :-)

Great minds think alike, I go pick up my Terrain tomorrow and today I happen to mention to the dealer the possibility of black GMC emblems and they said $180 and they'd be installed by tomorrow so I told them to go for it. Like you, I didn't really feel like trying to do it myself... I glanced at some youtube vids and wanted no part of trying to pry out the red logos with a screwdriver of my new vehicle. I figure I'm already spending enough, what's $180 to have it done and ready and just the way I want it when I arrive.

Thanks again for sharing!
