Roof Rack System

Hi All,

I have a 2011 Equinox 1LT with the roof railings installed.

I would like to get the best option for the top of the car in terms of storage of bags and such but don't want interference for the cargo section cause the dog goes there.

Any recommendations on what to get to assist and something that obviously wont get damaged or wet in the rain.

thanks!!!!

Re: Roof Rack System

So a rooftop box? Shop around on Thule and Yakima's website. They will have an automated fit system to show you what will fit on the roof with factory cross rails. There are a number of options, so tough to recommend one without knowing more about your needs.

Re: Roof Rack System

Cargo boxes are ridiculously overpriced ($500+)

I got my cargo box used dirt cheap on kijiji / Craigslist (about $40-50)

Look for an off-season "ski box" for a quick solution. just make sure it is something that clamps onto the crossbars (and not strapped/tied down)

Using Tapawhat? For how much?

Re: Roof Rack System

Best place to buy them at retail is REI if there is one in your area. They often go on sale for 20% off, and REI offers a 'return it any time if you don't like it' policy.

This is kind of what I am looking for. What size box is that? Did you have to get cross bars? Is it water proof?

Roof Rack System

I have OEM crossbars ($120 CDN)
The box itself is 20 cubic feet (I think). Bought it used for $40-50

It's water resistant to some point. - but there are drain holes at the bottom. I actually used it to carry an inflatable fishing boat and camping gear.

Re: Roof Rack System

So with the OEM crossbars and this 20 cubic size box did the cargo door still open all the way or did it interfere?

Plus, did you have to do something with the antenna?

My antenna is already a little damaged so i was thinking of finding another cheap alternative as not to cause more damage to it.

Thoughts?

Rear cargo door does open up all the way. I did unscrew the antenna aerial to install the box. Never did screw it back on - but didn't notice any radio reception issues either.

Re: Roof Rack System

You can opt for the lil stubby antenna. Works fine and shouldn't hit the boc
