New Guy with a question...

Hi All, new guy warning...

We just bought a 2012 Cadillac SRX, one of the options we wanted was the towing package. Sales dude says they never order them with one, and it's easy to add as a dealer installed part. So, I get out the owners manual and start reading about towing, and it lists two towing capacities for the SRX. 2500 pounds "Without Trailering Package" & 3500 pounds "With Trailering Package"...

Does anyone know what the heck is included in the Trailering Package, besides a hitch and wiring? Is it something I can add, like an oil cooler, or is it more involved, like heavier duty transmission parts? To add to my confusion, how the heck would i tow a trailer without a trailering package in the first place?!? :banghead:

I'm having a bad feeling I should have held out for the factory installed towing package...

TIA
Dan

Most likely, the towing package includes a transmission cooler. If you are only going to tow 2500# or less, then an aftermarket hitch is fine, otherwise, just install a tranny cooler, and you should be good to go. The dealer should be able to let you know if the towing package includes anything else.

Thanks for the input guys.

It's easy enough for me to install a receiver and the wiring, be it a GM part or someone else's. I just don't understand what it means in the manual when it refers to "Trailering Package". When I go to the Cadillac site, and build an SRX, one option is "Trailering Provisions" for $445 The description really doesn't say what is included, other than a hitch and wiring...

I just don't understand the difference in the manual between the 2500/3500 pound rating??? I took a pic of the manual, but can't seem to post a link from Photo Bucket???

Good idea hitting up the parts counter, I'll go pick their brain, and see what they have to say...

There is something about not being able to post links, or attach pics until you have 5 posts on the forum here...So maybe that is preventing you? I thought the [ IMG ] tag would work though? ???

Yeah, kinda figured it was something like that. I tried HTML, IMG, link and a few other tricks with no love. Hate to junk up the forum (I did a lot of poking around, and reading. Great forum!) with useless posts, so I'll try again later...
