As title says i had a dead battery today. This is the second time this month that this has happened. I did the search thing but didn't find anybody with the same issues. The first time this happen i jumped it with a jumpbox and it started up but i noticed the onstar light was dead along with no compass heading. I let it run for a while to charge the battery. After a while i went to check if it would star again and it did but i noticed no radio functions as in blank screen. Its still under warranty so off to the dealer. They said there was a short in the radio and they replaced. That was around the first of December. Today it would not start, same as before not even a click. I jumped it and it started this time radio is still working.
Here is the thing, i did some googling and found a lot of GM product owners having same issue more or less. The common thing is blue tooth call. Both times my battery died it was after receiving a call via blue tooth and then not driving the car for a couple of days. I found a TSB about this but i can't open the bulletin all the way, tsb # pic-6198.
Has anybody heard of this problem? I am calling the dealer next week after XMAS but i would like to know more about this tsb.
Could be that as both times the battery was totally dead, not even the dash lights came on when opening the door. My guess is the blue tooth is messed up. Going to run a test tomorrow on it by using the blue tooth then letting it sit over night to see if it kills the battery.
Battery went dead on our 14 when it was a couple months old. Kind of soured me on the Onstar when it was dead too. But wife made three or four calls and finally got someone at GMC to handle it. Tow truck driver couldn't get enough juice in it to roll the engine over, put it on the roll back. Dealer had it for 5 days and found nothing wrong with it. Was fine after that. We always parked it in the garage and take out the keys. But after that we made sure to drive it every three or four days. But I've read that battery failures are pretty common these days with the high drains and new style batteries.
Question, did you get a new battery put in when dealer had it? This stuff just started out of the blue. I drove this car this fall all the way out to the northwest where it sat a couple of times for three days straight. Not one issue then. It then sat at midway airport remote lot for a week and started right up. At the first of the month it just was dead, no click from starter just nothing. After jump with a jump box it started but radio was dead. Dealer replaced the radio said it had a short. As i said the second time it died the radio still worked. I feel this has something to do with the Bluetooth as both times this happened it was after getting a call through radio and then sitting for a couple days. I need to find out what the rest of that TSB pic-6198 says. For now i guess the jump box stays in this thing . Here is a screen shot of TSB.
On the 2014 the dealer didn't do a write up, just had notes on voltage checks written down. As far as I know they didn't change anything, battery hold down and covers had the same dust covering as it did when it was hauled in. Just a weird deal I guess. I wouldn't dare park it at the airport for a week though. I don't like how these vehicles leave the lights on and have so much drain before startup and after shutdown.
Dealer called today and said they found a dead cell in the battery. I forgot mention that after i jumped it the second time the seat heaters did not work. Service guy said the heaters work now after new battery install, no fuse blown. A couple years ago my 07 Silverado seemed to be haunted. Door locks going off by themselves, 6 cd player spinning around and no start. Problem was bad ground wire on the battery. I think with all the gadgets on these new cars the battery/electrical is the weak link.
Floyd- I got that TSB from the truck forum i am on. I showed it to the service writer and he could not find it in his system. It wasn't a "brush off" either i was sitting right next to him. He wanted to see it cause if it could help with fix he was all for it as they get next to nothing from GM these days for warranty work.
For now the little jump box stays in the car i guess. Ill updated if needed. thanks for the input/help
