Installing backup camera in 2005 Equinox

I am trying to locate a wire somewhere in the front of the car that I can use as a trigger for my backup camera. I got everything relating to the camera installed, and the only thing I cannot figure out is how to trigger the camera when in reverse. Right now, I can change the input on the radio to tell it to show the video, but my radio supports a trigger wire.

I am using a Clarion CC510 camera with the CAU001 license plate mount. My radio is a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH. Any advice on where to locate this wire without having to tap into the lights in the back of the car would be much appreciated.

Tapping into the back up lights should work.
I'd love to do that, but I cannot figure out how to locate a wire to the backup lights in the front of the car. I don't want to run yet another wire from the back of the car to the dashboard. If I do end up tapping into the backup lights, does it matter if I tap off the black or red wire? Is it okay to run a wire like this through the car, under the carpets, behind the trim panels, etc, like I did for the video cable?

You want to tap into the red (+) wire, and yes, you do have to be careful that it doesn't get grounded anywhere, or you will blow a fuse.

I found a diagram that shows a light green wire for the backup lamps going to the rearview mirror. I am going to inspect that further and see if I can either trace that cable back to the dashboard or tap into it somehow because that is a lot closer and probably a lot easier to work with. Based on the diagram, it looks like that wire should have 12V+ which is what I think I need based on what was said here already.

There is a fuse box in the passenger side front compartment, but unfortunately there is not a fuse for the backup lamps in there. There is a fuse in the underhood compartment, but I don't want to mess with that as the fuse there is tightly placed between two large relays and it would be hard to tap.

I finally dug out my tester and confirmed the green cable in the mirror wiring harness is 12V+ when in reverse, so now I just need to tap into it and get it extended to my head unit and I'll be all set.

Where did you find the green cable at? Over by the driver's side fuse panel? Or did you have to go to the kick panel?
None of the above. It was in the harness that attaches to the rear view mirror. I couldn't find where the other end of that cable went, so I was never able to get this hooked up. I've since sold my car, so I can't help you any further.
