Auto stop

I just bought a used 2018 Chevy Equinox with 12,000 miles on it. We noticed on the drive home that(2 hour drive) that the auto stop function didn't work and the vehicle never stopped running when we came to a complete stop. It didn't matter if the AC was on or off. We also have a 2017 Malibu so I am familiar with the system and it shuts off often. Anybody else have this issue?

There are a number of conditions that need to be met for the engine to shut off. Maybe all of those conditions never occurred on your drive.

This is what is in the manual:

Auto Stop may be deactivated if:
. A minimum vehicle speed is not
reached.
. The engine or transmission is
not at the required operating
temperature.
. The outside temperature is not
in the required operating range,
typically between −10 C (14 F)
and 50 C (122 F).
. The shift lever is in any gear
other than D (Drive).
. The battery has been recently
disconnected.
. The battery charge is low.
. The interior comfort level has not
reached the required level for
the climate control system or
defog settings. See Dual
Automatic Climate Control
System 0 192.
. The Auto Stop time is greater
than two minutes

We had a 2 1/2 hour drive home. Temps in the mid 80's. Mostly highway driving @ 70 mph. It was after getting off interstate we realized it wasn't shutting off. I turned off AC and at next light still wouldn't shut off. I have a 2017 Malibu with this feature and it works flawlessly. We will keep our eye on it.

And during the test drive we didn't really pay any attention to it (wish we had)and can't remember if it shut off. But definitely during the entire 2 1/2 ride home it didn't shut off at all.

I would consider this a good thing. Perhaps the previous owner installed the defeat relay and left it for you.

After day three, has not shut off once. Everything else works great.
Would that part installation void warranty? If indeed that is the reason for it not shutting off..

Should not void warranty. Removes in about two minutes if you don't want it. Easy to sell then too!

I took one for a test drive the other day and it didn't have a lot of gas in it. The sales guy said the auto stop-start DOES NOT WORK when you are low on gas. Good thing to know.

Silversn95 - something to add to your comment:

Also when you are low on gas according to the dealership. They are always test driving when low on gas so they know it well.

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that a "gas saving procedure", auto-stop/start, is programmed to NOT operate when you are low on fuel ?
