I have to agree with your assessment of the 2nd gen vs the 3rd gen Equinox. My 2016, 3.6 AWD LTZ is a substantially better built vehicle than my 2019, 2.0 FWD Redline. The 2016 is heavier, and appears to have been manufactured with higher quality components.

I like both for different reasons, and the 2019 is my daily driver. I like the 2019 for the better handling, sportier look, and the explosive power of the 2.0, all while getting better fuel economy.

The 2016 is the weapon of choice for long distance road trips; better comfort, a little more room, better ride quality, and a bullet proof power train with a naturally aspirated 3.6 engine. It doesn't handle as well, but eating up miles on an interstate highway, handling isn't an issue. An added bonus: NO STOP/START
