Angry P0420 - burning oil and messed with convertor - thoughts?

2013 Chevy Equinox - 86k miles - 4 cylinder - otherwise in good shape

Started burning oil last year - realized it and started making sure it was topped off - but now the P0420 code has popped up

took it to a shop who gave me a quote between 1600 and 1800 depending on the part used to replace the front CC which is a shitton of extra work

BUT - does it make sense to do that? if the burning oil has screwed with the particles in the Catalytic converter won't we be in the same spot in a year?

Wondering if I should just keep topping off the oil, ignoring the engine light and seeing if I can get a bit further out of it

I assume there's no additive I can add to the engine to help improve the burning oil problem

Got it paid off a year ago and now it's a bummer

Also I was reading and there may have been a class action lawsuit to address this with this model - is anyone familiar with such a thing? Past warranty, of course - cause F me

thanks - tried to register - really struggling with that register button -

Do a search for info on the class action suit. Does your state have an Emission test as part of an annual inspection ? That could make you replace the CC.

Login to the owners center on GMC's site. Under "Maintenance and Service" is "Warranty Tracker". I believe the oil consumption falls under 16118.

Mine used 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. No big deal. Only 89k on it, my 7.5 years was up early October. Of course, late November it started drinking oil. Just topped off again. It's now used 4 quarts in about 3,700 miles. If this were my 200k mile Toyota, big whoop. But it hasn't even hit 6 figure mileage yet, and has been well cared for.

hmmm...I have special coverage 14232 under the site but not 16118

Called Warranty Service - they said a letter is going out on this TOMORROW - so I guess I'll be making a trip in to get things going!

I hope they fix my CC too while they're at it since this damaged it and ruined the particles in it

My 2014 with 160k burns 1 quart or more every 1000 miles. Dealer for a few years has said 1 quart every 2000 miles was normal. Converter will definitely go bad. My 2011 with 101k now burns a quart every 1500-2000 miles but now the coverage is expired by date. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...90366-2280.pdf

I'm never buying another chevy, both equinoxs are nothing but problems. I'm always fixing something.
