2019 Equinox and Android users

I'm wondering if others have the same problem as I do when it comes to the Android phones and bluetooth.

When I have my phone plugged into the usb port in the center front console, in front of the shifter, the radio shows that it's connected and all performs as expected. I can control everything from the vehicle screen. I have my cell phone bluetooth enabled, and phone calls/streaming can be heard over the car speakers. No problems there. BUT, when it comes to alerts on my phone (texts, emails, etc), the sound fails to go through the car speakers. When the phone rings, it goes through the speakers, but not the alerts. The alerts are completely silent. There is no change in music being played due to said notification.

Why is that? Does anyone else notice this as well? Is there a setting in the car, or on the phone that I am not seeing? If I turn off the bluetooth function, I hear all notifications on my phone (not through the car speakers obviously).

I use a text to voice app on my Android (eCID) to get my alerts and text to the speakers. Never tried it with out the app.

The system no longer supports text through Bluetooth. Unless you still have the app in the head unit which they have stopped supporting. You have to use Android auto or apple connected by the usb cord now. This all kind of makes sense because its easier for the car manufactures to just let the interface of your phone show up on the screen instead of trying to get to work for every phone manufacture. Android auto and apple car play can now work over radios that support wifi from the phones. Bluetooth can't handle that much data so that's why wifi connection is taking over or you have to plug it in. From what I read only after the market units support android auto over wifi currently. I think the 2018 and 2019 terrains could probably do it in the future with a software change because they have a wifi router built into them.

Yours is doing better than mine. Even with it hooked up to the car I rarely see messages and the phone doesn't ring over the speakers. But I also have issue where voice recognition is not working and I have to take it to the dealer according to onstar. they believe the voice recognition needs to be reprogrammed or replaced.

Well, I wonder If it's something with my phone then. I mean, I get the phone ringing through my speakers, but the little notifications like text/email are not. My phone is always plugged in, and I use the Android Auto app that is built into the vehicle. Everything works as it should or expect it to. But those quick notifications are the only things that do not go through the speakers. Which is what I don't quite understand.

But I guess I have less of a problem, if you're not getting any sound at all. I should stop complaining and enjoy what I do have (ha ha)

I think GM made this new infotainment system to work now and for future vehicles. Its just they still are getting the bugs worked out. I think GM and other manufactures are looking at why use a create a complete system when most are plugging in phones. Just integrate with other platforms. Many are starting to use alexa and google assistant as long as its tied to your phone.
