you can not install on a vehicle that didn’t come with side rails. they make a different set of cross rails that bolt directly to the roof where the 4 black pads are on the roof.

Thank you for responding . sorry I’m confused , I want to add the chrome roof rails, that run both sides length of the car- there are black provisions on the roof top for them - not the black bars that run across the top. I spoke to a dealership today and he said they were available , and a previous post has given the link- any additional information you can provide is appreciated. Thanks again.

it simply can’t be done here’s a picture of my roof, the chrome rails have 3 attachment points per side. you should only have 2 attachment points per side on ur vehicle. for a total of 4 black pads with i believe 2 bolts in each

gm has made separate cross rails to attach to the black attachment points on vehicles not equipped with cross rails. they are around $200 on previous generation equinox’s it cost around $1000 to buy both side rails, both cross rails and hardware. looks like they decided to save the customer about $800 this time around for people that want to add roof carrying ability later on

this is what ur roof should look like, 2 attachment points vs the 3 on the picture of mine above this is how they’ll look installed. there’s both aftermarket and open gm bars available. the person above simply posted links to replacement parts for people who already have them installed

Yes, the models not factory equipped with side rails that have the four black mounting pads on the roof:

These models use cross bars that attach directly to the black mounts.

The models with factory installed side rails use a different cross bar that bolts to the side rails, and not to the roof pads directly.

I also don't believe factory side rails are available for models not originally equipped with them. There probably will be aftermarket rails available at some point.

they are available, gm lists 2 part numbers one for vehicles with side rails and one without

this is the part number for the one without as you can see the flange on the bottom is flat to mount directly to the roof instead of vertical to mount inside the side rail

edit sorry i missread ur post but leaving mine since it shows the proper part number he would need

Yes, there is indeed two separate fitments and part numbers for the cross bars.

The ones that bolt to the factory side rails end up sticking up way higher than the cross bars bolted directly to the black roof mounting tabs. I dislike the look of those that attach to the side rails because they are so high off of the roof surface
