2018 2.0 AWD Premier - Sounds/noises

Picked up a new 2018 2.0 AWD Premier last week. Traded in a 2011 V6 LTZ for it.

Has a few noises that I picked up on after driving it a bit.

1. High pitched whistling noise when driving. Thinking it might be the cross rails that were installed at the dealer. On the '18 the factory cross rails are more like a Thule. They are raised up but they are in a fixed position. If anyone else has this issue I'd love to know. Not sure what else it could be. New tires?

2. The interior of the roof vibrates near the opening of the moon roof. It's right in the middle. I can hold it up with my hand and the vibrating stops. Needs another clip to hold the middle in place or some kind of adhesive.

3. The rear hatch mates a squeaky sound when traveling on rough roads. I can replicate this by opening the rear and shaking the door by hand.

Anyone else with a new '18 hearing noises? I'm an idiot when it comes to cars.

So far I love the drive and the turbo is great. Just irritated by the sounds.

How about engine noise ?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new 18 Equinox 2.0 LT. I'm fairly new here, myself.

The only noise(s) I've experienced was the fuse box cover at the rear left near the hatch. I placed electrical tape over all 4 tabs and I haven't heard a peep from back there.

I've had absolutely no rattles (or leaks) from the sunroof or any other issues, thus far.

Please keep us posted on anything that develops, you remedy or the dealer resolves on your new LT.

Is the whistling possibly the turbo? I know in a Ford Ecoboost truck, the turbo whistles a lot. It's always in boost from what I can tell.

Here's my update:

1. I'm almost positive the whistle is from the roof cross rails. Luckily, they left the torque wrench in the glove box. I'm going to remove the rails and test.

2. The interior opening at the front of the moon roof. There were two tabs on the left and the right side that were not clipped in all the way. I saw this by opening up the roof and looking down into the opening. Fixed the problem. Basically just pushed up on the interior fabric and could see and hear the tabs click into place.

3. The rear hatch. It's super squeaky. Bringing into the dealer. They are going to open up the rear door and investigate.

@RIT333 - Love the new engine. I think it's quiet and the acceleration is so much better. It reminds me of an Audi Q5 2.0 (almost).

Am picking up the 2.0T this week and haven't read the manual yet... Interested in finding out the answer to this as well. If it's required I guess thankfully I have Costco take a bit of pain away!

The 2018 Equinox owner's manual "highly recommends" 93 octane fuel for the 2.0T engine. The manual recommends 87 octane for the 1.5T engine (and Top Tier fuel for both).

One of the vehicles I own is a 2015 Expedition Limited with the 3.5 Ecoboost V-6 (dual-turbocharged) engine. It is rated at 365 HP and 420 ft lbs. of torque. Ford designed the engine to run on 87 octane fuel (except premium is recommended when towing). I'm amazed that GM didn't design the 2.0T engine to run on 91 or 87 octane fuel.
