GM Reduced Powertrain Warranty - Do not vote unless you purchase NEW

This poll is for people who purchase NEW VEHICLES.
Please do not vote if you purchase used vehicles.

How will a reduce powertrain warranty affect your future NEW vehicle purchases?

How about a category for:
"I will consider other manufacturers regardless of GM's warranty."
Maybe the Tesla Model X

Although I would prefer to buy GM, I always would at least consider other makes with warranty a minor issue. That's the way I've always done it.

The poll is flawed. Should be an option - "warranty has no impact on my decision". The implicit assumption in it as written is that only the warranty would cause you to cross shop other manufacturers.

There are other unwritten concerns. Such as dealer availability. I won't consider certain brands just because I would have to drive 40 miles or more to a dealership. We do have 8 major brand dealers here. But 3 or 4 are undesirable for several reasons.

And then there is the matter of service department reputation. We have a dealer (used to be and Olds dealer too) here for a popular foreign brand that I would not ever consider. We had one of their foreign branded minivans back in 2001 and the dealer looked for ways to weasel out of the warranty. And they could screw up even an oil change or tire rotation.

I have found that if you visit the dealer for the occasional oil change, buy a set of tires when needed, and develop a rapport with a service writer of your choice, that you will get much more in return that just minimal service.

Also, if you had a good sales person when you buy your vehicle, they can and most often are a good liaison to the service department if you need some support. They know future sales are at stake, so will help when a potential issue may arise.

I have no brand loyalty to any brand. I buy what is the best value at the time for what I need. Right now, the stable is all GM..... Silverado 2500, Cadillac CTS, and Equinox. But only because I got killer deals on each of them. I have owned Fords, Jeeps, etc in the past.

Even with the reduced original warranty, when buying a used still in warranty, it is easy to get GM to extend it. Just bought a 2017 Equinox recently with 32K miles. Dealer gave the GM certified used warranty extension on it for another 12K / 1 year on top of the original warranty. So all is not lost regarding the GM warranty thing.

Freedom is not the ability to do what you want, but the ability to do what you ought.
