Re: 2015 Equinox LTZ 3.6L Just Ordered 12-18-2014

Well, that was pretty quick. The first info I had was TPW of 1-12-2015 and 3100. Wham. . . next it's built.

I wanted to wait past Tuesday when things are generally updated and:

Built and Bayed
4B00 event code status.

I have the VIN and probably looking for it to arrive at the dealer sometime between Jan 28th and Feb 4.
Actually hoping for a bit later to see what Feb incentives will be. But my dealer friend already stated a week or so
at the dealer would be fine with him as long as it is delivered by the months end in February. We do have a vacation
coming up also. So, we will see.

Re: 2015 Equinox LTZ 3.6L Just Ordered 12-18-2014

In anticipation of our new 2015 Equinox LTZ arriving, I have ordered the Elite Oil Catch can, and already have LED replacement bulbs for the interior dome and map lights, plus the back-up lights. I now have many spares since I got them at a very good price on Ebay. All tested and packaged. I think I have about 30 lights total. I ordered the latest 520 lumen Samsung LEDs for the backup bulbs. That ought to light things up.

I'll be looking at floor mats also. I already have some that I think will work, but will check out others. I am not a fan of the all rubber mats. In snowy weather , they do catch the snow, but then it melts and puddles up quite a bit. For winter, I found a bottom rubber mat with a substantial top fabric mat soaks up the water well (much or it then evaporates gradually) and the lower rubber mat prevents gorpy water from hitting the carpet. In Spring, I change floor mats and then also, power clean the winter mats and vacuum out the dirt and salt with the shop vac. They look practically new and I've been doing this for years on our two vehicles.

Still expecting the new Equinox between January 28th and Feb 4. Hoping for later to see what incentives will be since they will change after Feb. 2nd. Will delay delivery if it does arrive earlier.

Re: 2015 Equinox LTZ 3.6L Just Ordered 12-18-2014

Well, I had an early dentist appointment this AM, so on a hunch, I cruised through my Chevy dealer's back lot. Sure enough, there was our new Equinox probably just off the truck on Friday or maybe even this morning. Good thing I ordered the Elite oil catch can yesterday.

Well, I was hoping for a delivery on February 4th or so to see what the new incentives would be, but I will be getting $6K off MSRP this month so not so bad on a special order Equinox. I would like to put 2,000 miles on it or so before our trip to Florida in early April.

So I sent an email to my sales friend guy and waiting to see if Thursday will be good for delivery.

Is interesting that the Equinox got ordered on December 18 and is here just about a month to the day later. Pretty fast, but I suppose the time of the year may have much to do with it.

Re: 2015 Equinox LTZ 3.6L Just Ordered 12-18-2014

I just got a return email from Sean my dealer friend, and it looks like we will be picking up the new Equinox 3.6L LTZ on Thursday. I will have to check with DW when she gets home from work for and exact time. Sean said this is the fastest order out Equinox he has seen in a long time. Usually, it take 6 to 8 weeks as he checked before we placed the order in December. One month to the day from order placed to arrival at the dealer. Well, the Ingersol, On assembly plant is only about 400 miles away so that might be part of it.

Sean would have delivered it tomorrow if we wanted, but I asked for Thursday as we have wife's '09 Saturn Aura to transfer ownership to our youngest daughter. Plus it supposed to do a light snow tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday so we would rather pick the shiny new thing up with less chance of road slop. I may just park it in the garage and gaze at it for a few weeks till the weather gets better. . . . . just kidding folks.

But now I can get busy when the oil catch can comes in, and also install the LED interior bulbs and 512 lumen LED backup bulbs and maybe an LED license plate bulb.

Thinking also about different fog light bubs. I don't know about HIDs yet. I am thinking I may wait on some better LED head light bulbs eventually. It has only been a few years and LED bulbs have really improved. Based on that, I expect even greater and lower cost LEDs to arrive in a year or two. No matter if I go with HID or LED there is the DRL pulsing to deal with and remedied with a capacitor. I am guessing a load resistor might be needed with LED head lights as well. We'll see.

I called DW and told her the Equinox was in and she said, "Oh. . . exciting!" I am more even keeled after all the years and cars, but I do enjoy inspecting and learning about all the new features and workings of a new vehicle. We are looking to keep this one at least 7 years or so. We'll see.

More news as it happens. Back to the regularly presented forum postings.

I have the same oil catch can, and I'm curious where you'll install yours. Access to mine is a bit tricky to get off when I need to empty it. And a tip - at least for my LFX V6 - the oil catch can fills up well before an oil change is due. So I make a habit of emptying the catch can after 3k miles, then at the next oil change. A bit of an inconvenience, but I'm glad that junk is not getting into the intake.
And if you wouldn't mind - when you have your PCV out, could you take pictures of what you have installed? Apparently GM updated the PCV valve for late 2014, and I might swap out the parts. The valve openings in the PCV are supposedly bigger in 2014 to help with better crankcase excavation without being plugged by carbon deposits?

I think LED bulbs are still further than two years for the Theta platform because they still require a big heat sink that won't fit inside the dust covers of our headlamps. Unless you're also willing to modify the dust covers - really not that difficult too.
You won't need load resistors for the headlights. I've changed the wiring of my vehicle to where the driver's headlight powers a relay for my DRL LED foglights. And the passenger headlight does nothing (with no load resistor). Both headlights have separate circuits. No DIC warning message. But do you think GM changed this for 2015?

*Disclaimer: I'm only sharing my opinion. You didn't pay for it, so my opinion is only worth that much, haha.<br />2013 GMC Terrain SLT-1, FWD, 3.6 V6 (LFX), Sunroof

Re: 2015 Equinox LTZ 3.6L Just Ordered 12-18-2014

For the headlights for now, I probably will just upgrade to the Philips Crystal Vision Ultra or Diamond Vision H11. I will have to see the new inner fender liner since I hear it no longer has the removable port hole cover to access the headlight assembly.

When I get to doing the catch can, I'll try and take a picture of the PCV valve orifice. I want to check it anyway as Elite recommended drilling both sides out to 7/64th". I will use some drill bit and my micrometer and make actually measurements as well.

A picture below at the dealer pre-cleanup and delivery. It had just arrived hours before.

Re: 2015 Equinox LTZ 3.6L Just Ordered 12-18-2014

The 3.6 needs a catch can?! My '04 LS6 in my '98 Z28 needs one, but geeez, my Equinox is 11 years newer and GM has this issue in other products still?!

Please post a link to what I need now. Thanks!

Congrats on the new Nox too!

Thanks.

There are several threads concerning oil catch cans. In order to reduce carbon deposit build up on the back side of intake valves it is a wise thing to do The Direct Injection does not allow gasoline detergents to wash down the valves as in port fuel injection engines.

Here is one link, but you can find others using the search box on any page . . . .search for "catch can".

Well, I might. We'll see. For now I don't want to do much of anything in a cold garage. Brrr. . . it is winter. Although not as cold as it was. I'm not Tim Allen or Jay Leno with huge garages and a staff to work on our two vehicles. I spent enough time when I was younger lying on cold garage floors working on the latest klunker I was driving.

BTW. . . did you order any LED bulbs? You won't regret it.
