Gmc tech desperately needed please help

Ladies and gentleman, first of all I'm an active duty service member stuck in Germany. My 2012 terrain was acting up today and typically the CEL came on. It is like 100$ just for them to scan my codes I can't pay that much. Is there ANY way to get the code with out a reader? Every thing is super expensive here and this is the only vehicle I have so time is of the essence. Please help I'm in desperate need TIA

code reader only.

There are some apps for your smart phone.
you would need the BT connection or the cable.

Also software for laptops.

Some cheapie code readers are about $50. (ebay).

Auto parts stores in the states such as Auto Zone, O'Reilly etc will scan your car for free.
After they tell you the problem they hope you will buy the part from them.
Check around in Germany, maybe they do the same.
