2012 Equinox 2LT stereo questions

Hello,

I am new to the forum.
I have done a bit of reading but could not find a direct answer for my specific scenario.

The version of receiver/stereo I have does have Bluetooth and usb capability.
However, my girlfriend has a newer version of the system in her car that allows her to see the maps and other apps on her phone.. specifically navigation.

My version will play the audio (of course) but does not have the feature of showing the gps on the screen.

Is there a way to update this or a replacement receiver (second hand) from eBay that would work?

Thanks in advance

I suspect he wants to mirror his phone's screen to his stereo. I do that with our '18, and it makes it look like you have a factory Nav system, only better, because we can use Waze ! Awesome feature. And it can be controlled while the car is moving.

Using stock components it is possible. There is a thread called HOW-TO: 2010-2011 Equinox or Terrain Factory Navigation Upgrade from Base Radio that will get you well on your way. Keep in mind it's not plug and play. Your system may be slightly different. When going the second-hand route keep in mind the cost to have the stock head unit unlocked. It's typically $100 to have it done.

The other alternative is the aftermarket.

I’ve researched this and it is way too difficult and not worth swapping out head units.

Different model years may or may not work, it will be trial and error. I wouldn’t bet my $ on it.

Aftermarket options do not replace the screen and add a second screen down where the CD drive is. Looks weird and makes you look down to see the screen.

I'm just wanting to replace the small monochrome screen with the touch screen. I'm not interested in the GPS too much. I know the top dash piece has to change as well as the silver trim with all the buttons.
I'd assume all the wiring is there for the swap?
