2018 Terrain SLT DIC Questions

This is one of my simple questions about a new Terrain I just bought. In the past I always used the DIC's trip A for how many miles on a tank of fuel and trip B was miles on the oil change. On this 2018 I can't find a trip B to monitor the miles on the oil change. Is there a place to setup these options? I can't find it and the owners manual states trip A & B with the base model DIC and I assume I have the larger 4" version on the SLT.

I also hate the auto start/stop feature, but I have the diesel version and I'm not aware of a chip that bypasses this yet. I have read about some options and the simple one is to just put it in the manual shift mode. The odd thing with doing this at highway speeds it will always drop it down to 4th gear even when I know it's running in 6th. My past 2012 Terrain with the same 6 speed tranny would function just the way it should...driving in auto and running in 6th gear tap manual mode and it would stay in 6th not this 2018 it drops two gears down to 4th. With the tranny controls in the dash I find it a pain to manually shift from a stop light until i reach OD.

The other thing I hate with the auto start/stop is pulling into my garage and the second i come to a complete stop it shuts off, the minute i hit park it starts and i shut it off again. I guess i can just turn off the car when it stops, but does it leave it in drive and not park? This is such a pointless feature!!

As you have the SLT, you need to go to the steering wheel on the right circle, the one with four direction arrows and the check in the center. Hit the arrow that is pointing to the drivers side door, it should bring up a menu for check items off in. You should see trip a and trip b, so in your case trip a will checked and trip b will not. Use the center check mark to activate trip b and any other interesting tidbits you see and it should now come up on your menu when you hit the down and up arrows.

As far as the stop/start coming into the garage, when you power off the vehicle it will place it into park.

Thanks for the reply. I assume you need the car started but not in drive to see the options? Pressing left or right only gave the option to change the best mpg or turning off the stability control and traction why the car was moving. I will have to read through the manual again.

Look at the section for Driver Information Center (DIC) in the Intsruments and Controls chapter. In the edition of the manual that came with my 18 Terrain it starts on page 134. YMMV

Lovebohn, you can also put the car in Service Mode. Just press and hold the START button without pressing the brake pedal. This will bring up the DIC and you can toggle between the different options. Not sure how to do it if you donít have the push button start.

I tried that last night and could add trip B to my menu, there really wasn't much else to tweak. I do wish it had the fuel filter life in this setup.

Ooh a fuel filter gauge would be swell, like on the big rig diesels!

I have driven in many Diesel big rigs and I have yet to see a Fuel Filter Gage. It must be a special option on Volvos as I have never driven one of them. Not saying its not an option it just seems to be a very rare one.

I'm guessing Crispy was thinking of a diesel fuel pressure gauge, rather than filter gauge. I've never driven a 10 wheel truck/tractor, but plenty of diesel crawlers eons ago growing up on a dryland wheat farm. Those old crawlers had the fuel pressure gauge mounted near the mechanical injector pump on the engine and were the only way of telling if the filters were getting dirty or if you were running low on fuel as there was no fuel gauge. Those old pre-glowplug diesels were dandy for sure (tongue-in-cheek) Cat's gas pony motor that wanted to break your wrist while engaging the diesel motor and iH's will it or won't it start on gas and switch to diesel.

Nope, the sierra HDs have an option to display the fuel filter life in addition to oil life percentage.
