Dealer Trades

What to you all think of dealer trades of over 200 miles. The dealer that has the Terrain that we looked at and could not make a deal on realized that our dealer was trying to trade it for us. The closest one that is very similar is 265 miles away in Nashville, everything close by are with dealers that won't trade or don't have the Advanced Safety Pkg.

While, on the surface, a couple hundred miles may seem like you are buying a "used car", in reality, adding a couple hundred mile to the final mileage is a drop in the bucket. And, the warranty does not start until you actually take delivery. When i bought my '18, it came from a dealer that was about 200 miles away, and I was hesitant. I negotiated with my dealer a couple of extras, like Winter floor mats, front and rear "mud guards, and something else - forgot what it was. This allowed me to cash in on the rebates at the time, and get the vehicle with the equipment that I wanted.

My recommendation is go for it !

Not quite sure I get what you are asking / saying ? But are you asking about when a dealer does not have the vehicle you want in stock and has to find one at another dealer's stock ? If so we did the same thing on a past car, our dealer had to offer to buy the other dealer's car at cost rather than ( like you are suggesting - trade vehicle for vehicle ). I guess it makes sense but the vehicles ( colours and options ) were ordered by the dealer's themselves in the hopes of making money. It would suck having to trade a vehicle that another dealer made money on and in the end the vehicle you got just sits on your lot.
Kinda sucks but maybe call and discuss numbers with the Nashville dealer and say if you drive the 265 miles to them you want a guarantee of price before hand. Maybe send a deposit since you know the vehicle, the options you want and it has etc...You get the car you really want and they get the profit they were expecting...both are happy.

I say go for it. I did a dealer trade to get a 2005 Bonneville SSEI from Indianapolis (only 167 miles). I was one of the drivers and drove it back.

Sorry I didn't make it clearer. Not real crazy about some car jockey driving through Nashville, Chattanooga, and Atlanta on I-24, I-75 and I-85 running 75 -80+ for 6 hours. Now if it could be transported to SC for a decent cost OK. See new Car Break-In from OM

Starting and

New Vehicle Break-In
Caution
The vehicle does not need an
elaborate break-in. But it will
perform better in the long run if
you follow these guidelines:
. Do not drive at any one
constant speed, fast or slow,
for the first 800 km (500 mi).
Do not make full-throttle
starts. Avoid downshifting to
brake or slow the vehicle.
. Avoid making hard stops for
the first 300 km (200 mi) or
so. During this time the new
brake linings are not yet
broken in. Hard stops with
new linings can mean
premature wear and earlier
replacement. Follow this
breaking-in guideline every
time you get new brake
linings.
Following break-in, engine speed
and load can be gradually
increased.

My 2016 Equinox and 2017 Colorado were both dealer trades that were just shy of 200 miles away in different directions. My dealer sends a couple of retired guys to retrieve vehicles so I know they are not abusing them on the way back. It is a lot cheaper for him to do that than send a truck and doesn't charge any extra fees. If it is a vehicle that you like and want it now for programs, then do it. Otherwise you will have to do a factory order out and wait, but orders now will most likely be a 2019 build with no programs and a higher price. I did not even consider dickering with the dealers where the vehicles were as it would have been a hassle with my trades that far away, and I like my local dealer for service.

We went to the dealer this morning and gave him some new parameters to look for: 1st, 2nd & 3rd choice of colors. He seemed hesitate to trade for something that far not so much on his end but the other dealer might not want something with that many miles. we should know something by the end of the day.

my dealer traded for my 2017 wifes acadia.
it had 600 miles on it when I got it.
I wanted the factory trailer package which includes tranny and oil coolers, bigger radiator, different gear ratio.

the warranty says 3 years or the odometer reaching 36,600 miles so you don't loose anything on the warranty.
I have had zero problems with the car.

even if they drive it for 200 miles the cars only turn a little over idle like 2000 rpm
my 2012 2.4 with 290,000 miles on it turns 2000 rpm at 70 mph.

its like a fast idle.
I would say its not a problem if the car has a couple hundred miles on it from the drive back.

when I got my 2012 nox it was go go go from day one.........in two days I had 500 miles on it so my breakin was very short.

I guess my mind is still back in the old days, where you babied the engine for the first 500 miles. He is going to have to trade for what we want, and have it driven to him. It's amazing how many Denalis don't have a lot of the safety packages on them or fairly stripped down.
