DIY How to Install Fog lights on 2010-2012 Chevy Equinox with video

My Equinox is a 2012 1LT, which USA 1LT versions as we know, does not come with the fog light option. Only 2LT or LTZ. I really like the way the fog lights look on a Equinox and despise my ugly plastic filler piece. So I have seen a few how to threads regarding this subject but never a full detailed with step by step pics and a video as well. So I made one myself and hopefully this helps people that are interesting in doing this factory mod.

DIY How To Install GM Fog Lights 2010 2011 2012 Chevy Equinox

GM part numbers you will need:
Driver Side Chrome Fog Light Bezel: # 20847185 Retail Price $50.00 Online price$33-37
Passenger Side Chrome Fog Light Bezel: # 20847186 Retail Price $50.00 Online price$33-37
Fog Lamps 2 of them: #10335108 Retail Price $115.45each Online price:$74-$85each

Online prices vary depending on what site you go on, I recommend fastgmparts.com or oemparts123.com , many other members on this forum have their choice place to buy from online. Usually shipping on these Bezel’s is around $6-$10. I would stay away from GMpartsdirect insane shipping. I bought mine from a local Chevy dealer so I did not have to pay shipping, just asked if they could match fastgmparts.com total with shipping and a little less and they were able to do it. After some haggling and using other dealer price match, took a few phone calls, but it was worth it. One dealer even had in stock. That’s how I get most of my parts, if dealer just wants to be tough to work with I have ordered from Fastgmparts.com with no issues.

For the fog lights, you don’t have to get factory, the aftermarket ones which I have herd are just as good, and they have buy it now’s on ebay from $59-$65 max with free shipping for 2 of them. Plus some come with bulbs and sometimes even bulb harness. Just search the part number 10335108 or since there are many GM vehicles that use this same Fog, search 07-2010 Impala or 06-08 Malibu. Once again I lucked out on ebay and found 2 separate auctions and got em both for under $40 new factory ones. I didn’t care to much if they didn’t have a harness since I am not wiring these anyway. Just for looks remember lol.

Re: DIY How to Install Fog lights on 2010-2012 Chevy Equinox with video

**Note I will prob get a lot of criticism for not putting a how to wire them up, since this install is going for strictly looks lol, but that might come later. I have run fogs on my other vehicles for years and prob use them 2% of the time so its not worth it to me to hook em up. If I ever do I promise I will post it on here with video and pics.
If someone else has done the wiring, please post a detailed how to with a schematic and maybe some pics, donít just say hooked em up on a toggle and they work lol. It would be nice to see what harness people used and exact process to hook em up with a external toggle switch since most people can accomplish that, instead of buying an entire signal light unit and reprogramming a computer. Props to those who can afford that route.

Here is a few tips on how to wire them up.
You can do it a few ways, I have seen people do the toggle switch method which is a extra switch under the dash, some people mount it in a hidden place, looks pretty good. Here is a forum on a dude that hooked it up this way.
Here is the thread: http://www.srxforum.net/index.php?topic=3492.0

The other method is prob the most expensive way, I envy you if you can do it this way. MOCHANOX is his tag on this forum and he did the entire new turn signal switch bezel since the fogs on the ltz are on the turn signal and light controls.
Here is his post on this, very interesting he even did a video to show the end result, but not the step by step process. It cost him over $500 or more and he had a resource for someone to reprogram the BCM on his nox. Its a 5 page thread with good info. The thread does explain what he went through and has video on page 5

Enjoy hope the video and info helps! Thanks again for those that help provide insight on this install, you know who you are

Outstanding instructions and video! Will start today. I also have the front end harness, relay, and 3rd party switch. I opted for this wiring to avoid additional cost due to BCM updating. I have the same color LT1.

Thanks again!

Great video Bowtieman. Looks real good. Can't wait for the chrome videos. I'm debating on the door handles and roof rails.

Re: DIY How to Install Fog lights on 2010-2012 Chevy Equinox with video

The video is helpful as I scoured this site before attempting to install my own fog lights in my 2011 LT1. I must say, it is a waste to just ruin the plastic inserts. It only takes a small 7mm socket with a short extension to remove the screw inside the bumper. I found it quite easy to get to. And, I sold the inserts on e-bay for $35. I bought the bezels at the dealership where I bought the car. I bought the fog lights off e-bay at a much reduced price. The installation of the factory parts was very easy and it all snapped in andI only had to replace the 7mm screw, very simple. I did wire my lights and this was what took the longest, maybe 3 hours total. I have photos of the wire installation and can post those if someone wants to see how I routed them. You'll need some misc body grommets and I even used some silicon sealer just as insurance. The wireing harness was actually from a Saturn Sky fog light set. Worked great and I do have the lighted pressure sensitive swith under the steering wheel. I've wired it to the fuse box so if I forget to turn them off they do go off when the engine is shut off. I know of people who have wired the aftermarket harness direct to the battery and run the battery down on more than 1 occassion. The install is simple and anyone with average automotive skills can do it. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 on the "haw hard is it" scale. Let me know if anyone wants some wiring photos, I'd be glad to share them.
