c0800 code !! HELP?!

I have a 2015 Chevy Equinox that we bought at 34,000 miles at a dealer. I had an oil change about a month ago and everything has been fine since then until 4 days ago. I moved my car to clean the inside out, windows down. Then, when I went to put my key in and turn on the car, my car wouldnt start! It had a clicking sound really fast, and then my wheel locked, couldnt turn it either direction. A message popped up SERVICE POWER STEERING on my car, and noticed that the time on my car was completely off by hours and so was the date. Could this be a battery change? or something else? After how many times of trying to turn the key and start the car, it finally started but really sluggish... I jumpstarted the car later on that day, and then it turned on like nothing was wrong! I took it to a repair shop, and told me that the battery seemed fine, but pulled up the code C0800. The car was running fine until i tried to start it again and then i heard the clicking sound and had to jumpstart the battery again for it to start well and run (maybe for a couple days again). Was doing some research online and read that this code could relate to an x411 connector that is corroded and needs to be replaced if so... anyone got this problem too?

No problem here - -- - - 2015 Equinox LTZ. . .

That said. . . the battery still could be malfunctioning. Sometimes a cell or two will short internally on and off. The plates are very thin in modern batteries.

A lot has to to with how and where the vehicle was used. Hot summer climates are harder on a battery than cold winters.

Thanks ! I was thinking the same thing that it could still be the battery. The area i live in can get as hot as 80-90 degrees outside. Tried starting the car again and did the same thing, now "service power steering" message popped up again. After a few tries of trying to start the car i got it to start.

Re: c0800 code !! HELP?!

You could check and clean the battery terminals, make sure cable are in good shape. There are multiple connections to the battery and also check for a loose or bad ground (minus battery side) from the battery to the chassis connections.

It would be good if you could get an inexpensive volt/ohm meter from Harbor Freight or some place and have someone measure the battery voltage when this no-start problem is going on. If the battery voltage drops to less than 12 VDC when trying to start then is is probably weak. If the battery voltage stays up, then possibly a connections problem.

Re: c0800 code !! HELP?!

Are you sure C0800 is the right number?
I don't see that one in the 2014 Service Manual.

The x411 connector joins the Body Harness to the Chassis Harness.
It is under the rear of the vehicle, behind and to the left of the fuel tank.
Hope this helps.

Re: c0800 code !! HELP?!

IF it is the X411 and connection is somewhat corroded, you could try getting a can of DeOxit electrical contact cleaner.

Take the connector apart and see how the connections look. If severely corroded, best to replace. It it looks like white powdery stuff inside, Spray with DeOxit or CRC electrical cleaner, plug in and out many times, spray and repeat a half dozen times till things looks clean or you can see if the contacts are too far gone.

Would then follow up with a liberal amount of silicone dielectric grease on both ends and work it into the connector. The stuff can be found at most auto supply and some home supply stores.

Re: c0800 code !! HELP?!

All great information here.

ninjarobot88 if you have a bad wire(s) in the x411 connector let me know and I will post a pin out of the connector.
That way you can identify the bad one, if not still under warranty.

Re: c0800 code !! HELP?!

thanks guys, i am located in Hawaii. I'llbe taking the car to a dealership for service on Thursday and see how everything goes. In the meantime, i'm gonna buy a new battery to see if that helps. Being that we bought the car used, not too sure how long the car was sitting i the hot lot before we even bought it - even though the battery is still the original battery (should last one more year)

Re: c0800 code !! HELP?!

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread. I've got that same c0800 on my 2011 Terrain for the past month. It started coming on every now & then, but is on all the time now. After reading this thread I checked the x411 connector. I opened it & everything is perfect looking, just like new. No corrosion whatsoever. What pins can u test??
