Just bought a '13 Equinox. Did I get hosed?

First post here and I'm excited to participate in discussion with you all!

I just bought a 2013 Equinox LT with 74k miles on it. Dealer had full Carfax with detailed service logs (was a fleet vehicle.) My town car died on me last week so I bought this in a pinch.

Body is 8.5/10. A broken clip on the bumper cover and a few scratches which likely would not show if the body wasn't black.

Interior is 9/10. A few blemishes. Slight burn mark on the visor drivers side visor. Scrape by the window on the plastic. No signs of spillage and cargo area is almost spotless.

Never had any major repairs or accidents and the dealer just rebuilt the cat back as a precaution. Frame has not started to rust at all.

All said and done, I paid $10,800. Did I get hosed or is this a steal? I feel like I got a really good deal, but it's my first "big boy" car and I want to make sure I'm not being naive. I've driven nothing but beaters for the last seven years. 🤣

Go on Kelly Blue Book and punch in your options and mileage. Off hand, sounds like a ballpark deal to me.

2011 Equinox 1LT (new Jan 2011): Summit White / 3.0 L V6 / FWD / Pioneer Stereo / 18" Wheels / 108+k miles (June 2017)

2002 Impala 1LT (new Jun 2002): Summit White / 3.4 L V6 / FWD / Cassette-CD Combo /202+k miles (June 2017)

KBB says $14,500 but I wasn't sure that is the best rule of thumb.

Seems like a good price from a dealer. Enjoy! Watch for oil consumption (check the oil).

In addition to watching for oil consumption, check along the bottom of all doors, including the rear hatch, for signs of rust or rust bubbles. The door rust issue has been a problem for a number of years now and repairs are often covered by GM, depending (it seems) on where you live.

I'm sure that overall you'll be happy with your purchase.

Loving it so far! No signs of rust (yet.) Does the engine just consume a lot of oil or does it see leaking or gasket issues?

What engine do you have ?

The '10 and '11 4 cylinder engines often had oil burning issues, but by '13 the engines were pretty bulletproof.

It's the 2.4L. I'll definitely keep an eye out!

Re: Just bought a '13 Equinox. Did I get hosed?

when you get the oil changed. (assuming they put in the proper amount of oil and a filter change- and that they allowed the oil to drain out in a timely fashion)--
The following day- while the engine is cold and sat overnight...
pull out the dipstick several times-- and take note of the oil level...... that is YOUR TRUE full oil level.(Take a picture if you have to as reference)

1 time a week, check oil level and monitor for consumption.
Have a 1 qt bottle handy- and top off the oil to bring it up to that FULL level that you took notice of.

As the miles add up on that oil change--- if the level drops add oil to keep it at the full mark.

As you go, youll get a good idea of the oil its using... based on how much you add from that qt bottle.

You may find that oil consumption varies- depending on the type of driving you do.
------------------------
Ive read the arguements for-- youre overfilled.....
but- on these engines-- oil level is VERY important.... so is oil quality. so keeping the level up is good practice.

this is how I keep track of oil usage on my 3.6 V6. (on the Traverse and Equinox).
My traverse---- currently has used 1 qt of oil... but im now at 4300 miles since the oil change....
so nothing alarming.
Ive done this since new-- now at 127,300---- and usage does vary on the kind of driving I do. Stop and go vs highway....

The reason I recommend that you take note of the FULL oil level is that when I drain the oil, I allow the oil to drain until dripping pretty much stops or is every 5-10 sec...
I replace with an AC DELCO filter and add the proper amount--- the manual shows the spec as oil WITH filter change capacity.
this is what I noticed since the vehicle was new..... my---- FULL oil level...

this is on my Equinox.... same thing-- drain, replace filter, refill with 6 qts...
for this- I did not add oil and took note of how much oil came out (I measure the oil drained)-- and at the full mark-- only 5.1 qts of oil drained out with the level at FULL.... ummm yeah, already 1 qt low. (6500 miles on drain interval)

I personally know two owners of the '13 and '14 2.4L engines that ended up getting the consumption test and ultimately new rings. Could be a fluke though. Actually, the husband of the owner of the '13 was pissed and never got the repair. He's a Ford guy so he took the excuse to trade in on an Edge so I don't know if anything else came out of that consumption test.

To the OP, it sounds like you got a nice deal. IMO, fleet vehicles detract from the value, so you should have a decent discount from KBB. I think $10K sounds good, especially if they had the maintenance records. I'm shopping for a truck and a lot of them are fleet or commercial use. I won't buy a truck with 20K miles a year that has no maintenance records.
